We're seeking a Project Engineer, Research & Advanced Engineering (Crop Care) to join our team in Canoas, Brazil. This role will focus on developing step-change concepts and enabling technologies for Brazil Crop Care platforms, including sprayers and planters, while supporting global projects as needed. The Project Engineer will design, build, and validate proof-of-concept solutions that reflect Brazilian agriculture and agricultural conditions. Plan and execute lab and field validation, instrument equipment, analyze results, and deliver clear documentation for handoff to Product Engineering teams. Work closely with Agronomy, Product Management, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to align requirements and remove blockers across automation and sensors topics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own primary R&AE responsibilities for Brazil Crop Care platforms (sprayers and planters), ensuring concepts are aligned with Brazilian agricultural practices and conditions
  • Translate Brazilian customer needs into engineering requirements, use cases, and proof-of-concept scope, while supporting global R&AE initiatives as needed
  • Design, develop, and integrate automation proof-of-concepts, including perception, guidance, and control systems, on sprayer and planter platforms
  • Plan and execute laboratory and field validation activities, including equipment instrumentation, data collection and analysis to drive design decisions
  • Produce clear plans, test reports, and technical summaries to enable effective handoff to Product Engineering, collaborating closely with Agronomy, Product Management, suppliers, and cross-functional teams

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering concept development, prototyping, system integration, or validation/testing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel and work in laboratory and field environments during critical development and agricultural seasons
  • Experience conducting agricultural field testing or customer trials in Brazil
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing laboratory and field tests, including data analysis and technical documentation
  • Familiarity with ISOBUS, CAN bus, control systems, and precision agriculture technologies
  • Experience working with Linux systems, including command-line usage, scripting, and Linux-based embedded or vehicle systems
  • Ability to meet physical job requirements, including:
    • Working safely in laboratory and field environments
    • Standing or walking for extended periods
    • Lifting and carrying up to 25 kg (55 lbs)
    • Using hand tools and technical equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation
