Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Sr. Principal Airworthiness Engineer - Technical Excellence Strategy to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is based in Melbourne, FL

Within the Governance & Independence group, the Airworthiness & Weapon Systems Cybersecurity (AWWSC) Center for Technical Excellence’s strategy focuses on strengthening technical excellence. Our structure consistently and logically aligns disciplines to support program execution across the full life-cycle continuum, while unlocking capacity to elevate technical standards and excellence within each discipline.

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems’ AWWSC directorate, headquartered in Melbourne, FL has an immediate opening for a motivated Airworthiness Engineer to support the Center of Technical Excellence strategy, including the development of AW Policy, Process & Procedures, AW Training, AW Tools, AW for Common Products, Data Strategies, Digital Airworthiness, and support our WSC team with common approaches and methodologies as applicable.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:​

  • Develop and maintain tools, processes, and training investment roadmaps

  • Support tool development

  • Represent the AWWSC on sector councils

  • Develop and maintain process artifacts, procedures and process flows

  • Counsel on program-specific processes/procedures

  • Develop and maintain metrics for programs and staff

  • Assess, develop, sustain, and conduct training

  • Enterprise / Industry collaboration

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sr Principal Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 8 years of related experience; OR Master of Science with 6 years of related experience; OR Ph.D. with 4 years of related experience

  • Experience with reviews and coordination of other Airworthiness Engineers, as well as with internal engineering disciplines at all levels of the air system to include: design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

  • Experience with functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, hardware and software specifications for airworthiness compliance to the appropriate regulations, standards, and/or guidelines.

  • Experience with airworthiness activities throughout the development, sustainment, and disposal lifecycles.

  • Proven ability to work cross functionally with subject matter experts, engineers, analysts, and senior leaders.

  • Ability to obtain U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering clear guidance and conducting workshops for engineers.

  • Support modernization by providing vision, focus, guiding principles, essential capabilities, and goals necessary to evolve the team into a robust digital-centric organization.

  • Familiarity of MIL-HDBK-516C or D

  • Civil/Military aircraft development or modification experience

  • Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Applies extensive technical expertise and has strong knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Problem Solving: Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Discretion/Latitude Work is performed without appreciable direction.

  • Experience with domestic or international standards development organizations

  • Experience with digital airworthiness approaches & methodologies

  • Familiarity with the DoW acquisition process

  • A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).

Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
