Senior Power Controls Engineer / Functional Safety SME

We are seeking an experienced Senior Power Controls Engineer / Functional Safety SME to support the design, development, and implementation of advanced automation and power conversion systems within an industrial engineering environment. This role is ideal for a highly skilled professional with strong Siemens PLC programming experience and a solid background in power systems, automation, and electrical controls.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in developing automation strategies, control narratives, HMI systems, and functional safety solutions for complex power conversion and distribution applications.
Responsibilities:
- Design, program, test, and troubleshoot Siemens PLC-based automation systems using TIA Portal, Step 7, and WinCC
- Develop control narratives, operational sequences, and logic documentation for power conversion systems
- Create block diagrams and functional descriptions supporting automation and electrical control designs
- Configure and develop HMI systems for monitoring and control of industrial power processes
- Integrate PLC systems with inverters, rectifiers, transformers, switchgear, and grid-connected equipment
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), commissioning, and startup activities
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams, project managers, and field personnel to ensure successful project execution
- Assist in troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement of automation and power systems
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, control system best practices, and project specifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- 7+ years of experience in Siemens PLC programming and industrial automation environments
- Strong experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7, and WinCC
- Knowledge of power electronics, electrical power conversion systems, motor drives, and grid integration
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and power system documentation
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, MODBUS, and OPC UA
- Familiarity with protective relays, synchronization systems, and load-sharing controls is a plus
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project-related documentation tools

Pay Range:
$110,000 – $175,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
