Job Description

We are seeking a Senior AI Software Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will architect and ship AI agents, agentic systems, and GenAI-powered tooling that transform how we develop software, serve customers, and scale operations. You'll own mission-critical distributed systems supporting payments and financial pipelines — and apply AI to make them smarter and more resilient. The ideal candidate combines deep software engineering experience (TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, GCP) with hands-on Generative AI implementation and brings excellent communication skills to translate business requirements into scalable, AI-driven solutions. Success in this role requires tight collaboration with product, design, and engineering leadership to identify high-impact AI opportunities and bring them from experiment to production.

At First Dollar, we believe in empowering engineers to build a smarter health benefits platform - one where human expertise is amplified, not replaced, by AI tools. We seek engineers who have demonstrated experience using AI responsibly to accelerate their development workflow, improve code quality, and solve complex problems more efficiently.

Our engineering team is built on the principles of humans over code. We are a tight-knit group of lifelong learners in a constant quest to be a team that is greater than the sum of its parts. Come join us!

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and ship AI agents, agentic systems, and GenAI-powered tooling to multiply engineering productivity and unlock new product capabilities.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to align on strategic initiatives and AI "Experiments" that will shape the future of our platform.
  • Work closely with the AI Center of Excellence and stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in AI/ML and distributed systems architecture.
  • Teach and mentor methods of rapid prototyping using generative AI tools and techniques.
  • Build AI tooling and systems to unlock intelligence in the ML/Data Platform.
  • Identify, experiment, and scale MCP use cases for our platform and customers
  • Foster an environment where different backgrounds, cultures, industry and life experiences are embraced and valued.
  • Own mission-critical distributed systems supporting payments and financial pipelines where downtime isn't an option.
  • Drive experimentation, rapid prototyping, fast failure, and data-driven iterations.
  • Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, thorough documentation, and technical guidance.

  • Proven track record owning mission-critical distributed systems (such as payments, financial infrastructure, high-throughput data pipelines, ledger systems).
  • Self-directed ownership mentality—you identify opportunities, architect solutions, and see problems through end-to-end.
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and architectural frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Delivery patterns, Cloud foundational patterns, Observability patterns, Developer experience patterns.
