Job Description

ROLE:

The Senior Packaging Associate is responsible for performing all responsibilities of a Packaging Associate. Responsible for training and retraining of newly hired Packaging Associates or the training of new procedures related to packaging of products. Perform initial set-up of the shift assignments, including rotations and break relief.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently set the example and perform all responsibilities of the Packaging Associate in accordance with all Production, Quality and Safety guidelines.
  • Train newly hired and rehired permanent and/or temporary employees to perform Packaging Associate job functions in accordance with:
    • Standard Work Procedures (SWPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
    • General Safety Rules
  • Train employees on new or updated policies and/or procedures
  • Work with the Packaging Associates and Quality Department to ensure products packaged for customer delivery are within specifications.
    • May print and provide labeling
    • Support InfinityQS
  • Assist in ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained during the shift, with particular attention to shift hand-off
  • Assist with and communicate need for restock of packaging materials on the lines
    • Work with Operators and Material Handlers to coordinate and properly support changeovers.
  • Work with Supervisor and Lead Operators to ensure shift handoffs occur smoothly with primary objective of ensuring the success of the on-coming team
    • Assist with the equitable application of work assignments and rotations for Packaging Associates
    • Adjust work assignments in response to absences or partial absences
    • Communication of quality or safety concerns and open items
    • Assist in tracking and reporting of shift production results
  • Provide workstation relief for Packaging Associates
    • Fill-in for Packaging Associate absences or partial absences as needed
    • Cover break and meal times as well as required bathroom or office visits.
    • Assist in coordination and scheduling of breaks and other time away from workstation.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

Interpersonal/Communication:

  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively and work closely and productively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Willingness to work with others and be an active trainee and trainer.
  • Understands that their role is to serve as a liaison between the Packaging Associates and other production supervision, line operators, quality, and safety.
  • Able to diplomatically present expectations to others and communicate positive feedback and concerns to supervisors. Is not the disciplinarian.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Apply knowledge of the Packaging Associate responsibilities and procedures to assist in the review and development of Standard Work Procedures (SWPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Able to interpret production data in order to provide applicable information to determine runtimes and aid in the timing of production changeovers

Safety:

  • Demonstrates an understanding that safety is a value and is not to be compromised
  • Is mindful of their actions and those around them to ensure that incidents do not occur
  • Basic understanding of machine and equipment to identify hazards
  • Proactively identifies, addresses and reports unsafe actions/behaviors or conditions to the supervisory staff
  • Basic understanding of E-stops including when and how to use them
  • Understanding of authorized vs. affected Lock Out Tag Out employee
  • Participates in incident investigations and New and Altered Equipment Reviews (NAERs) as needed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, distribution or other industrial setting preferred.
  • Previous experience as a trainer or in a leadership capacity preferred.
  • Comparable experience handling tasks that are repetitive in nature, at a steady pace.
  • Consistent and acceptable safety, efficiency, quality, and attendance record.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

  • Able to stand and walk constantly on a cement floor surface
  • Use of hands, fingers, arms, and shoulders constantly
  • Reaching out frequently
  • Lifting to a maximum of 30 lbs.
