Job Description

The Sr. Mortgage Advisor serves as the dedicated residential mortgage expert within our credit union branch network. This role primarily focuses on servicing warm internal referrals and walk-in traffic generated by branch partners (Personal Bankers, Branch Managers, etc.), while also developing external relationships to generate external leads within the local community. The MLO guides members through the entire mortgage financing process, aligning credit union lending products with each member’s long-term financial goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary mortgage point of contact for assigned credit union branches, partnering daily with branch staff to identify members with home financing needs.
  • Promptly follow up on, track, and convert warm internal leads and cross-sell opportunities generated by branch personnel.
  • Educate branch staff regularly on credit union mortgage products, promotions, and qualification criteria to optimize internal referral pipelines.
  • Attend local networking events, open houses, and community functions to build an independent referral network and drive external loan volume.
  • Conduct thorough financial consultations with members to analyze credit profiles, income, debt-to-income (DTI) ratios, and asset documentation.
  • Recommend appropriate credit union mortgage loan products to enable borrowers to make an informed decision tailored to meet their specific needs.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with borrowers, branch partners, real estate agents, and internal processing/underwriting teams throughout the loan lifecycle.
  • Ensure a seamless member experience by managing expectations and resolving issues proactively from pre-approval to closing.
  • Identify opportunities to expand borrower relationships by proactively referring them to appropriate internal branch partners for financial services (e.g. retail banking, investments, or insurance).
  • Monitor local real estate market conditions, competitor offerings, and economic trends to identify growth opportunities.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of federal, state, and institutional lending regulations, including RESPA, TRID, and fair lending laws.
  • Achieve or exceed monthly and annual production goals established for origination volume, pull through ratios, and member satisfaction scores.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
