This position is responsible to ensure Synagro Facilities and Operations comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permits in the areas of air, water, solid and hazardous waste management. This position will develop management systems to ensure operations practices, policies and procedures drive compliance. This role will include oversight of consultants used for air testing, SPCC compliance and compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expertise/compliance support relative to air, water, solid and hazardous wastes regulations applicability/interpretation
  • Facility Environmental Inspections/Assistance Visits inc. dewatering operations and maintenance shops
  • Internal Environmental Compliance Audits and corrective and preventive actions follow-up
  • Environmental Compliance Incident Investigations and corrective and preventive actions follow-up
  • Oversight of Facility emissions testing and regulatory reporting, QA/QC
  • Environmental Compliance Calendar preparation for new facilities and acquired facilities relative regulations, permits, and contract obligations; Limiting Conditions of Operation; If event occurs and long term tasks. Updates to the Calendar as changes occur.
  • Compliance Calendar tasks completion monitoring and exceptions follow-up
  • Develop and implement Facility air, water, solid and hazardous waste training program
  • Serve as subject matter expert related to air, water, solid and hazardous wastes including review and comments on draft permits, potential risks associated with proposed regulations
  • Update environmental compliance programs to comply with new regulations and permits
  • Assist with Existing Facility Permit Renewals/Modifications & QA/QC reviews of new facility permitting
  • Assist with preparation, review and comments on Facility specific Plans and SOPs related to air, water, solid and hazardous wastes
  • Maintain a master list of aboveground and underground storage tanks/structures and associated registrations and requirements for fixed facilities, dewatering operations, and maintenance shops
  • Assist in insurance provider reviews of Facilities

Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline
  • 5 or more years work experience in air, water, solid and hazardous waste management
  • Professional certification (QEP or other professional designation in the field) preferred
  • Previous performance managing subcontractor and/or consultants
  • Able to understand business processes and systems impact
  • Strong time management, multi-tasking, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Possess the ability to successfully interface with all levels and areas of the organization and establish close working relationship
