Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Lead mechanical equipment receiving, technical readiness verification, and manufacturing handover for CPO-related MLA, MMC, and other assigned precision automation processes within SCS. Partner with project equipment design teams, process engineering, controls engineering, maintenance, operations, quality, suppliers, and system integrators to translate product, process, safety, maintainability, and automation requirements into robust mechanical equipment solutions that enable pilot production, ramp-up, and stable manufacturing.

Build mechanical equipment capability for new product introduction and future equipment upgrades. Own mechanical sustaining, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, fixture and tooling optimization, spare-parts strategy, mechanical documentation, maintenance inputs, and lifecycle performance for assigned high-precision automation equipment, including mechanical structures, motion mechanisms, alignment modules, dispensing and curing modules, material handling, safety guarding, pneumatics, utility interfaces, and ergonomic design.

Key Responsibilities

Project Mechanical Receiving and Handover

  • Work closely with project equipment design teams, process engineering, controls engineering, suppliers, and system integrators to understand product-critical requirements, process windows, equipment operating mechanisms, mechanical architecture, tooling interactions, motion concepts, fixture design, material handling, safety guarding, ergonomics, maintainability, and key mechanical risks for CPO-related MLA, MMC, and other assigned precision automation processes equipment.
  • Participate in technical specifications, mechanical design reviews, supplier build, FAT, SAT, installation, alignment, dry run, process debug, qualification, validation, and production release to

identify mechanical risks, verify equipment performance against product and process needs, and propose improvements before manufacturing handover.

  • Review, verify acceptance criteria, and receive key mechanical deliverables for assigned equipment, including mechanical drawings, 3D models, BOMs, fixture and tooling drawings, pneumatic diagrams, utility requirements, safety guarding design, critical spare-parts list, maintenance manuals, lubrication and inspection standards, changeover methods, recovery procedures, and supplier technical documentation.
  • Document mechanical equipment knowledge, operating mechanisms, adjustment methods, alignment procedures, tooling functions, wear parts, troubleshooting methods, recovery procedures, key parameters, maintenance standards, mechanical handover packages, and train process engineering, production, maintenance, trainers, and key operators to ensure effective knowledge transfer and sustainable manufacturing operation.

Sustaining Mechanical Ownership, Troubleshooting, and Continuous Improvement

  • Own day-to-day mechanical troubleshooting and recovery support for assigned precision automation equipment, including mechanical jams, alignment drift, fixture or tooling wear, motion repeatability issues, pneumatic failures, dispensing or curing module issues, handling defects, safety guarding concerns, ergonomic risks, recurring downtime, capability loss, and process-related mechanical defects.
  • Apply structured root-cause analysis, effectiveness verification, and data-based problem solving to eliminate recurring mechanical failures, reduce downtime, improve availability, OEE, MTBF, and MTTR, and strengthen equipment recovery, restart, and escalation practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement and future equipment upgrades through mechanical design improvement, fixture and tooling optimization, cycle-time reduction, yield and capability improvement, changeover simplification, maintainability improvement, capacity optimization, standardization, cost reduction, and lifecycle risk mitigation.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance requirements, critical spare-parts strategy, equipment BOM review, inspection standards, TPM inputs, lifecycle risk assessment, and mechanical obsolescence management for structures, tooling, fixtures, mechanisms, bearings, linear guides, actuators, pneumatic components, guarding, utility interfaces, and other critical mechanical components.

Cross-functional Project Execution, Supplier Support, and Compliance

  • Work with system integrators, contract manufacturers, and global engineering teams to clarify mechanical equipment requirements, review design deliverables, define acceptance criteria, verify issue closure, support warranty actions, and drive post-startup mechanical improvements.

Experiences/Education - Required

Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical equipment engineering, equipment development, automation equipment integration, manufacturing engineering, or equipment sustaining within a manufacturing or equipment-development environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with non-standard automation equipment, mechanical design, fixture and tooling design, precision motion mechanisms, pneumatic systems, material handling, safety guarding, ergonomics, equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience in equipment transfer, mechanical design review, supplier build, FAT/SAT, installation, qualification, validation, production ramp-up, reliability improvement, and manufacturing support.
  • Experience working with equipment suppliers, system integrators, contractors, and cross-functional project teams to deliver mechanical equipment solutions from design through manufacturing handover.
  • Experience in CPO, photonics, fiber optics, precision assembly, electronics, semiconductor, medical device, or other high-precision manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical equipment engineering capability in mechanical design, fixture and tooling design, equipment integration, mechanical troubleshooting, and manufacturability / maintainability im-provement.
  • Proficient with 3D and 2D mechanical design tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including as-sembly drawings, component drawings, tolerance analysis, BOM management, and design documen-tation.
  • Strong commissioning and troubleshooting capability, including installation, alignment, mechanical adjustment, FAT/SAT, qualification, downtime troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and permanent corrective action.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, with strong capability in technical documentation, sup-plier communication, and cross-functional project communication.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with CPO, photonics packaging, MLA, MMC, Fiber Kit, precision optical/component alignment, semiconductor packaging, electronics assembly, or comparable high-precision manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with precision dispensing, UV curing, micro-positioning, vision alignment, fiber-optic assembly tooling, tray and carrier handling, cleanroom equipment, or advanced precision automation mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated project management skills in equipment development, supplier management, installation planning, qualification execution, and production ramp-up support.
  • Machine safety, ergonomics, Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant technical certification is preferred.
