Job Description

Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer - Robotics
LocationThis position is based in our Campbell, California offices. This position is on-site and full time

Why Imperative Care?
Do you want to make a real impact on patients? Imperative Care is changing the way stroke and vascular diseases are treated. As part of our team, you’d be developing breakthroughs that will revolutionize the future of stroke care. Every day, the technologies that we develop at Imperative Care directly impact human lives. Our focus is on the needs of the patient, and they come first in everything we do.

What You’ll Do
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in system integration, verification, and execution for a robotic surgical platform approaching first human use. This role focuses on bringing an existing design to a reliable, tested, and deployable state through hands-on engineering, cross-functional collaboration, and rigorous problem solving. As we learn from early human use, this role will also contribute to future design iterations and next-generation system improvements.
The ideal candidate is a practical, detail-oriented engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys working across system boundaries to resolve real-world issues, improve product performance, and support system builds and deployment.

  • Execute subsystem and system-level verification activities, including development and execution of test protocols and reports
  • Support system builds, integration, and troubleshooting of robotic hardware and electromechanical systems
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement effective solutions for mechanical and system-level issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Electrical, Systems, Quality, Manufacturing) during integration and test phases
  • Support early deployments, installations, and field issue resolution as needed
  • Contribute to design updates, ECOs, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance reliability, usability, and manufacturability
  • Assist in development of test methods, fixtures, and validation strategies

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • ~5–8 years of experience in hardware development, system integration, or sustaining engineering
  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems, including build, test, and troubleshooting, with familiarity in precision motion components (e.g., gears, lead screws, bearings, encoders, servo motors)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues across mechanical and system interfaces
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments and driving issues to resolution
  • Ability to implement design updates and ECOs using CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in medical devices or other regulated industries
  • Familiarity with design controls, verification/validation processes, and quality systems
  • Experience supporting products through integration, pilot builds, or early production

Employee Benefits include a stake in our collective success with stock options, competitive salaries, bonus, a 401k plan, health benefits, generous PTO, and a parental leave program.
Salary Range: $131,000 - 158,000/annually
