The objective of this position is to provide leadership and operation in scanning electron microscopy laboratory. The position is responsible for advanced materials characterization and damage analysis through hands‑on operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of multiple scanning electron microscopy assets. This role provides critical analytical support for damage analysis, inclusion analysis, R&D, Quality, and customer investigations by delivering high‑quality microstructural, compositional, and crystallographic data and translating results into technically sound conclusions.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Operate and optimize scanning electron microscopes (SEM) equipped with FIB, EBSD, and EDS detectors to support materials characterization, damage analysis, and R&D investigations.
  • Acquire, analyze, and interpret secondary electron, backscattered electron, EDS, and EBSD data, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and traceability of results.
  • Perform FIB-based sectioning, trenching, and site‑specific sample preparation, including preparation of TEM lift‑out samples on an as‑needed basis.
  • Prepare and analyze non‑conductive samples, including appropriate coating, mounting, and low‑vacuum or alternative imaging approaches as required.
  • Collaborate with materials engineers, R&D staff, manufacturing, and quality teams to define analytical approaches, review results, and support root‑cause analysis and technical conclusions.
  • Develop ideas for continuous improvement of laboratory productivity.
  • Maintain SEM/FIB laboratory readiness by supporting instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, safe operation, and 5S practices.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.    
  • Basic knowledge of materials and associated characterization techniques.    
  • Knowledge of relevant industrial standards.
  • Experience with production processes.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related field with 5 years of experience, or,
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related field with 3 years of experience
