What to expect

Generac Clean Energy Solutions is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to work on all stages of Manufacturing Engineering development for Power Electronics products, including DFM, Process Development, Equipment / Line Design, and Manufacturing Launch. You will be working cross functionally with product design engineering, supply chain, test engineering, product management, and contract manufacturers across North America. You will use your background in design for manufacturing to focus on content reduction and assembly simplification, qualification of robust processes, and development/handoff of industry-leading assembly equipment. The ideal candidate already has a solid understanding of PCBA assembly techniques, direct experience with high-precision dispense, joining, and sealing operations, and a knack for manufacturing line qualification/launch. You will create novel manufacturing processes for assembling parts and products across the Generac Energy product portfolio.

You will be based out of Reno, NV but you will need to travel to other engineering sites as needed: Boston, Maine, or California. The role may also require occasional travel to CM facilities in North America or equipment buyoff at international automation integrators.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive content reduction, assembly simplification, and built-in-quality of assemblies
  • Develop and maintain DFM and DFA standards, producing high-quality and cost-effective electronic products and housings, seal interfaces.
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and commercial teams to develop the best design solutions, material selection, and process technologies.
  • Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures on pilot lines
  • Lead development of new manufacturing processes
  • Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation
  • Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures on pilot lines, and correlate and compare process data from multiple sites for developing equipment improvements

What You’ll Bring

  • BS Degree in Electrical OR Mechanical OR Manufacturing Engineering Masters in Mechanical/Electrical engineering a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing/Mechanical/Automation Engineer
  • Experience creating technical specifications for manufacturing equipment
  • Experience leading Capital projects with Equipment / Automation Integrators
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles.
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspections, Expertise in tolerance/stack-up analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., IPC, JEDEC, AEC-Q), design guidelines for PCB manufacturing processes, and ESD/Cleanliness quality requirements
  • Experienced with SOLIDWORKS, and other similar software/tools
  • Experience designing production line layouts in AutoCAD
  • Proven results in meeting customer requirements and expectations
  • Good understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
  • Ability to travel internationally to engage with manufacturing partners.
  • Travel required ~ 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing roles for PCBA, Electronics, or Battery Assembly
  • Extensive breadth and/or depth in Assembly processes, including precision dispense, electrical test methods, transducerized fastening, leak testing, and vision inspection.
  • Design / Specification experience with automatic conveyance and robotic systems (FANUC preferred)
  • Experience providing feedback and concepts for packaging to enable automated assembly from incoming dunnage, or development of cartridge/magazine in-factory replenishment systems
  • Experience introducing new products and new processes from a prototype environment to a production environment
  • Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in Reno, NV is $100,300- $130,400. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short-term and long-term incentives.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
