Job Description
As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer at onsemi’s premier silicon carbide growth & fabrication facility, this position performs moderately complex design, developmental and testing duties on electro/mechanical capital equipment, test apparatus and subsystems for new and existing products. Performs work as an induvial and in a team, applies principles and techniques of manufacturing/mechanical engineering to accomplish goals; able to perform and take direction in a functional organization; and able to work and set direction independently to meet program timelines. You will evaluate existing and new requirements; propose new methods and processes in order to maximize manufacturing efficiency, improve cycle time, capacity and on time delivery.
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will drive the following key business processes in the silicon carbide growth and fabrication factory:
- Optimizes, troubleshoots, and supports day-to-day manufacturing operations to maximize efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Performs design, implementation and support of moderately complex electro/mechanical equipment, components, and subassemblies for new and existing products.
- Design tools and fixtures to aid in the fabrication of our product
- Utilize in-house 3D printing capabilities to streamline design and prototype process
- Selects new mechanical components to design systems.
- Participates in design meetings.
- Creates and maintains design history.
- Assists with the development of qualification test procedures and carries out qualification testing.
- Enhances production workflows, validating equipment, solving assembly line issues, and training operators on new processes and technologies
- Conducts testing and integration testing for functionality and limits.
- May collaborate with vendors on product specifications and component selection.
- Research new technology or development tools to remain informed of current technology.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, 3D models, and computer-generated reports.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation.
- Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions or make product or process improvements.
- Estimate costs and submit bids for engineering, manufacture, and implementation.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
- The successful candidate will have a B.S.M.E with 5-7 years related experience.
- 3D CAD experience, SolidWorks and PDM knowledge preferred.
- Working knowledge of mechanical theories, design principles and practices, and design evaluation techniques, and various fabrication techniques
- Understanding of vacuum principles; outgassing, Ideal Gas Law, compatible materials, bakeout temperatures, conductance & radiation, etc.
- Office automation experience including the use of spreadsheets for analytical and data evaluation.
- Understanding of MRP systems.
- Good communication and presentation skills to properly communicate information of moderate complexity to peers and members of the management team (up through senior management level) and some external contacts, such as vendors.
