The Senior Manager, Commercial Training is responsible for the strategy, business performance, and execution of technical training programs supporting Vertiv thermal management products and solutions. The role leads training for internal service audiences, local Vertiv organizations and service partners, and external customer audiences. This leader ensures that programs are technically accurate, commercially viable, scalable, and aligned with product launches, service readiness, customer requirements, and business priorities.
The position owns the commercial training portfolio, including annual planning, course scheduling, instructor capacity, customer proposals, pricing strategy, revenue and cost visibility, performance metrics, and continuous improvement. The Senior Manager leads a team of technical instructors and coordinates onsite delivery, travel, hands-on laboratory readiness, equipment acquisition, and cross-functional execution within Vertiv processes.
· Develop and execute the commercial and technical training strategy for the thermal management portfolio, serving internal and external audiences.
· Own the thermal management training catalog, learning paths, course availability, delivery models, and annual operating plan.
· Balance customer demand, service readiness needs, instructor capacity, academy utilization, and product priorities to establish an executable training roadmap.
· Partner with Services, Product Management, Offering Management, Sales, Operations, Engineering, Technical Support, Learning and Development, and regional stakeholders to align training priorities.
· Own the pricing strategy and governance for the commercial training catalog, including standard pricing, onsite delivery assumptions, travel considerations, class-size limits, custom requests, and periodic price reviews.
· Lead the development, review, and approval of customer training proposals and statements of work in coordination with Sales, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and operating teams.
· Ensure training commitments are clearly scoped, appropriately priced, operationally feasible, and consistent with product, service, intellectual-property, and customer-access requirements.
· Monitor revenue, costs, margin drivers, purchase orders, and program performance; identify opportunities to improve commercial results and customer value.
· Lead, coach, and develop a team of technical instructors responsible for classroom, virtual, academy-based, and onsite training delivery.
· Set clear goals, delivery expectations, technical qualification requirements, safety standards, and professional conduct expectations for the instructor team.
· Manage instructor assignments, workload, travel, expense compliance, and onsite logistics while maintaining adequate academy coverage.
· Build instructor capability through technical development, train-the-trainer activities, coaching, succession planning, and cross-qualification across thermal product families.
· Ensure consistent, engaging, and safe delivery for learners with varied technical backgrounds and experience levels..
· Partner with instructional designers, subject matter experts, Engineering, Product Management, Technical Support, and field leaders to establish and maintain technically accurate curricula.
· Ensure course materials, assessments, hands-on exercises, facilitator guides, lab documentation, and learner resources remain current with engineering changes, safety requirements, service procedures, and product updates.
· Use learner feedback, instructor observations, business performance, field data, and stakeholder input to evaluate effectiveness and improve programs.
· Establish portfolio standards for course quality, version control, delivery readiness, technical review, and program governance.
· Serve as the primary business leader for thermal commercial training and a trusted point of contact for customer, service, product, and regional stakeholders.
· Develop budgets, resource plans, business cases, and investment recommendations for people, equipment, facilities, technology, and external support.
· Identify operational, commercial, safety, quality, and readiness risks and implement appropriate mitigation plans.
· Lead with a customer-first mindset, sound business judgment, urgency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Education, Business, Project Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
· Progressive leadership experience in technical training, field service, product support, service operations, customer training, or a related mission-critical environment.
· People-management experience leading technical professionals, instructors, trainers, or subject matter experts.
· Experience managing a portfolio of training programs, customer-facing services, or technical enablement initiatives with responsibility for schedules, resources, metrics, and business outcomes.
· Demonstrated experience with pricing, budgets, proposals, cost management, or commercial program performance.
· Experience leading cross-functional initiatives within a matrixed organization and influencing stakeholders across Engineering, Product Management, Services, Sales, Operations, and support functions.
· Working knowledge of thermal management, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, liquid cooling, or other mission-critical data center technologies.
· Experience with readiness management, launch planning, or product commercialization.
· Experience with New Product Development Introduction, product lifecycle, launch readiness, or commercialization processes.
· Experience with technical curriculum governance, adult learning principles, instructor qualification, and hands-on lab-based training.
· Professional certifications in project management, training, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, or relevant technical disciplines.
