Job Description

Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery… the stuff dreams are made of.

Who We Are…

When we say, “the stuff dreams are made of,” we’re not just referring to the world of wizards, dragons and superheroes, or even to the wonders of Planet Earth. Behind WBD’s vast portfolio of iconic content and beloved brands, are the storytellers bringing our characters to life, the creators bringing them to your living rooms and the dreamers creating what’s next…

From brilliant creatives, to technology trailblazers, across the globe, WBD offers career defining opportunities, thoughtfully curated benefits, and the tools to explore and grow into your best selves. Here you are supported, here you are celebrated, here you can thrive.

Sr. Manager, Taxonomy & Ontology is part of the Global Production Delivery and Enterprise Metadata Governance Center of Excellence within the Global Content Operations organization. This critical leadership role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and governing a singular, enterprise-wide ontology and associated taxonomy structures across WBD content data domains.

The person in this role will lead a team focused on defining, modeling, and validating semantic relationships across title inventory, editorial metadata, rights, physical asset inventory, and production/post-production/delivery pipelines. They will develop governance strategies, enforce metadata policies, and partner with technical and operational stakeholders to ensure metadata consistency, interoperability, and downstream readiness across WBD systems.

The Sr. Manager will drive the evolution of metadata structures, guide ontology-driven system design, and provide leadership across large-scale transformation initiatives. English fluency is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner closely with CoE leadership, metadata governance colleagues, and business clients to develop and document ontology and taxonomy requirements across content domains.
  • Design, maintain, and evolve the enterprise ontology, including controlled vocabularies, hierarchical structures, semantic relationships, and metadata schemas to support title, editorial, physical, and production workflows.
  • Ideate and develop workflow improvements and efficiencies through enhanced ontology integration, improved systems functionality, and new technology adoption (including AI-powered metadata enrichment and knowledge graph applications). Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including but not limited to, Engineering, Programming, Global Content Operations, and Enterprise Data Governance —to define metadata problem statements, roadmaps, and priorities; review development and manage issue remediation.
  • Provide operational and technical leadership for ontology and taxonomy implementation, ensuring accuracy, interoperability, and scalability of metadata models and governance workflows.
  • Develop and implement metadata governance best practices, structural standards, and enterprise policy for ontology and taxonomy usage.
  • Perform extensive analysis across large volumes of WBD metadata to validate semantic alignment, identify gaps, and refine ontology structures across all content supply chain systems.
  • Execute ontology-driven data mapping, modeling, and optimization of central metadata structures across multiple enterprise systems.
  • Analyze and act on daily global requests for metadata modeling, vocabulary additions, structure enhancements, and alignment with the authoritative ontology.
  • Work with global stakeholders to respond to inquiries, troubleshoot metadata structural conflicts, and ensure consistency of metadata interpretation and application.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in ontology design, taxonomy management, metadata architecture, data governance, or data modeling.
  • Master’s degree in Library & Information Science, knowledge management, computer science, data governance, or a related field.
  • Written and spoken English fluency required.
  • 1–2 years of experience in the media industry preferred, with familiarity in media metadata and content workflows.
  • Experience with ontology modeling, taxonomy management applications, semantic schema development, or controlled vocabulary design is highly advantageous.
  • Appreciation for global media content and understanding of content metadata structures is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate effectively as part of a global team.
