DHL Express currently has an opening for a Senior Manager of Process Engineering in South Florida. This position helps to plan utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations in our Service Centers, Gateways and Hubs throughout the Americas. The Senior Manager of Process Engineering also identifies emerging technology, establishes work measurement, programs and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization. This position may also contribute to the development of budgets and forecasts and also support various country PUD, Hub and GW Engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Route & Network Optimization
- Lead end-to-end route and network design and optimization, including centroid modeling, facility location strategy, courier staffing models, and KPI/reporting frameworks.
- Forecast facility, staffing, transportation, and material handling equipment requirements to improve cost efficiency, capacity utilization, service performance, and productivity.
- Develop analytical methodologies that improve planning accuracy, network coverage, productivity, and operational performance across multiple countries.
- Coordinate routing system changes with airline, hub, and ground network partners to optimize service cost and reliability.
- Provide direct support to Service Centers, Hubs, and Gateways while contributing to the Americas NOEP strategic roadmap.
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct engineering assessments and optimization projects across Service Centers, Hubs, Gateways, Aviation, and other DHL operational divisions.
- Establish and maintain work measurement programs, engineered labor standards, and productivity models.
- Analyze workflow, process flow charts, production schedules, and operational data to determine the most efficient sequence of operations.
- Recommend and implement improvements in staffing models, workflows, equipment utilization, facility layouts, and operational procedures.
- Develop and conduct engineering training programs while leading regional NOEP champion networks and best practice sharing initiatives.
- Support regional 5S assessments and drive the modernization of SOPs, governance standards, and execution frameworks.
Facility Design, Infrastructure & Engineering
- Support the complete lifecycle of logistics facility design from conceptual planning through operational launch.
- Support major infrastructure projects, including new facility construction, relocations, expansions, and network redesigns.
- Optimize material flow, facility layouts, operational procedures, equipment placement, and space utilization to maximize efficiency and service quality.
- Prepare cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluate cost factors associated with infrastructure and operational improvements.
Automation, Technology & Digitalization
- Lead automation initiatives involving sorting, scanning, imaging, data capture technologies, and other operational innovations.
- Serve as a Business IT (BIT) super user and lead UAT/TAT testing activities to ensure successful system implementation and adoption.
- Develop operational databases, reporting tools, dashboards, and KPI frameworks that enhance visibility and decision-making.
- Support regional and global BIT implementations including operational systems, digital platforms, and fleet management technologies.
- Document process requirements and interface mapping from an operational super user perspective to support technology development.
Cost Optimization & Strategic Engineering
- Deliver engineering solutions that improve cost efficiency through optimized staffing models, facility design, workflows, and equipment utilization.
- Conduct cost impact assessments and develop recommendations for Service Centers, Gateways, Hubs, and Aviation operations.
- Evaluate operational performance and identify opportunities for cost control, productivity improvement, service enhancement, and quality improvements.
- Design logistics solutions that ensure operational integrity, scalability, and long-term cost optimization.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Collaborate with Service Quality, Infrastructure, Gateway Compliance, GSOP, COG, and Zero Defect teams to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
- Work closely with NOEP representatives throughout the Americas region to support programs, policies, and procedures.
- Influence strategic decision-making across multiple business units and ensure alignment with global operational standards.
- Assume project management responsibilities for regional engineering, network optimization, automation, and infrastructure initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with management at all levels and present recommendations to leadership teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Logistics Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.
- Master's Degree preferred.
Experience
- Bachelor's Degree with 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, logistics, network planning, operations optimization, or related field; OR
- Master's Degree with 5-7 years of related engineering and operational experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading process improvement and operational optimization initiatives.
- Experience managing cross-functional and regional projects.
- Experience in logistics, transportation, facility design, or network optimization environments preferred.
Skills
- Strong engineering and analytical capabilities.
- Advanced knowledge of network design, route optimization, and facility planning methodologies.
- Expertise in process improvement, facility design, workflow optimization, and engineered labor standards.
- Knowledge of MSD and/or MOST work measurement methodologies.
- Strong project management skills; Prince2 or PMI certification preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Visio, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL required.
- Familiarity with programming and analytical tools, including Python libraries (OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Scikit-Image), C++, MATLAB, and Java preferred.
- Strong presentation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to influence and drive results across all organizational levels.
- Knowledge of GSOP standards and operational compliance frameworks.
- Ability to innovate and drive change within a high-growth operational environment.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
- Ability to work varying schedules, including overnight and weekend support when operational requirements dictate.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications listed below, while not necessarily a requirement for this position in each circumstance, provide additional depth and value to the role.
- GSOP Subject Matter Expert certification or equivalent operational expertise.
- Recognized expertise in process improvement, PUD operations, and Gateway/Facility design.
- Experience supporting multinational logistics networks.
- Spanish language proficiency preferred and encouraged as part of individual development planning.
- Experience with DHL operational platforms including GCA, ACA, CAIA, SCL, GOP, OPMS, DCVS, and related systems.
Other Important Information About This Position
- Travel requirement of approximately 50% throughout the Americas Region.
- Position provides strategic and operational support to Service Centers, Hubs, and Gateways across multiple countries.
- Role directly contributes to the Americas NOEP Strategy Roadmap and DHL Express long-term growth initiatives.
