The purpose of this role is to lead the global environmental product compliance programs, standards, targets and performance criteria for the entire organization, and provide technical expertise in the areas of product environmental compliance. This function ensures implementation of sustainable and compliant solutions, considering all relevant external legislation and internal guidelines.

Success in this role requires strong project management, advanced problem-solving, and effective communication skills, as your work directly impacts project outcomes and organizational performance. All responsibilities must be carried out in strict adherence to GxP regulations, including following SOPs, maintaining accurate documentation, completing required training, and supporting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Lead the global Environmental Product Compliance strategy across product design, packaging, and end‑of‑life waste management
  • Develop and implement globally aligned environmental product compliance programs, standards, targets, and performance criteria
  • Serve as Alcon’s representative with external industry and regulatory organizations (e.g., Medical Device Summit, EDMA)
  • Monitor, interpret, and assess global environmental product regulations and drive timely compliance plans
  • Identify chemical regulatory risks and lead mitigation strategies through Alcon’s Environmental Product Compliance process
  • Own and drive the Environmental Product Compliance Process, ensuring adherence to internal procedures and external regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS, MDR, CE)
  • Manage the collection, validation, and maintenance of product‑related environmental data (regulatory declarations, chemical content, packaging materials, sizes, etc.) from internal teams and suppliers
  • Partner with R&D to conduct environmental compliance assessments during product development to enable global market access (RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Packaging Waste, Prop 65, etc.)
  • Lead the Product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) program to measure sustainability impact and performance metrics
  • Manage responses to internal and external environmental compliance inquiries, including tender and customer requests
  • Oversee generation and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for new and existing products
  • Manage Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs, including external agreements, data collection, regulatory reporting, and fee payments

What You Will Bring to Alcon:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 7 Years of Relevant Experience
