Summary – basic function of the role

The Sr. Maintenance Technician is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and reliability improvement of machining and manufacturing equipment, test fixtures, and facility systems. Building on the Maintenance Technician role, this position independently resolves complex and recurring equipment failures, develops sustainable corrective actions, and improves maintenance practices to reduce downtime and extend asset life. The role provides hands-on technical guidance and mentoring, coordinates assigned maintenance work and equipment-readiness activities, and partners with production, engineering, procurement, vendors, and other Enerpac facilities as needed. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and has no direct reports or formal supervisory authority; staffing decisions, performance management, disciplinary action, and departmental priorities remain with management.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently perform advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on machining and production machinery, test fixtures, facility systems, and related equipment; serve as a technical resource for complex maintenance issues.
  • Diagnose and repair complex, intermittent, and interrelated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures, including machine-control components within training and authorization; interpret schematics and diagnostic data to isolate underlying causes.
  • Respond to critical equipment breakdowns, evaluate repair options and operational risks, and coordinate technical troubleshooting through safe restoration and verification of equipment performance.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Supervisor and production leadership to recommend maintenance priorities and coordinate assigned repairs, planned shutdown activities, parts availability, and vendor support within approved schedules; escalate competing priorities and resource needs to the supervisor.
  • Provide hands-on technical coordination for equipment installation, relocation, modification, testing, and startup; partner with engineering and suppliers to verify safe operation, maintainability, and readiness before release to production.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of recurring failures using equipment history, inspection findings, and operating data; recommend and implement approved corrective actions, evaluate effectiveness, and refine preventive and predictive maintenance tasks and intervals.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, equipment histories, inspection and calibration records, failure findings, repair details, and parts usage in the maintenance tracking system; develop and update troubleshooting guides and standardized maintenance instructions.
  • Model and follow company safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout and applicable electrical and equipment-safety requirements; identify and report hazards, support corrective actions, and perform specialized work only within required qualifications and authorization.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and measurement instruments safely and effectively.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, equipment calibration, and facility-maintenance activities as qualified and assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining plant property, utilities, building systems, and equipment in good working condition.
  • Safely handle and properly dispose of solvents, lubricants, chemicals, hazardous materials, and maintenance-related waste.
  • Communicate equipment condition, failure causes, repair status, downtime risks, and recommended follow-up actions to employees and leaders; provide clear technical handoffs for work continuing across shifts or teams.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, procurement, vendors, equipment suppliers, and other Enerpac facilities as needed to resolve difficult technical issues, obtain specialized support, and share effective maintenance and reliability practices.
  • Evaluate repair-versus-replacement options and provide technical and cost input for equipment refurbishment, tooling, and capital needs; support sourcing of spare parts and outside repairs, obtaining purchase approvals under established authorization requirements.
  • Maintain safe, organized maintenance work areas, storage locations, tools, and supplies; support asset identification, critical-spare identification, inventory accuracy, and replenishment recommendations to improve traceability and equipment readiness.
  • Mentor Maintenance Technicians and support hands-on training in troubleshooting, equipment care, maintenance procedures, and safe work practices; share technical knowledge without assuming formal employee supervision or performance-management responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position’s purpose and level of responsibility.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced troubleshooting expertise across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, with the ability to diagnose complex and intermittent failures involving multiple systems.
  • Ability to independently interpret complex technical manuals, electrical and fluid-power schematics, equipment drawings, instructions, and safety documentation to plan and complete repairs.
  • Proficiency selecting diagnostic tests, interpreting mechanical and electrical measurements, and verifying equipment performance against specifications.
  • Applied knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment calibration, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement; ability to translate failure findings into sustainable maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency with a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, and measurement instruments.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety procedures involving electricity, hydraulic pressure, pneumatic pressure, hazardous materials, chemicals, and equipment operation.
  • Ability to evaluate repair alternatives, recurring failure patterns, downtime impact, and lifecycle costs to recommend safe, practical, and cost-conscious solutions.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, including sequencing complex repairs, anticipating parts and resource needs, and balancing planned work with urgent breakdowns within supervisor-established priorities.
  • Sound independent technical judgment and accountability for completing complex assignments with limited direction, while recognizing safety, authorization, and technical limits requiring escalation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and plant systems, including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to explain complex technical findings clearly, mentor others through hands-on instruction, and collaborate effectively with employees, leaders, vendors, equipment suppliers, and other locations.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through; proficiency documenting work in maintenance tracking systems and using equipment histories, spare-parts records, and technical instructions to support reliable operations.

Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical diploma, associate degree, completed apprenticeship, or equivalent advanced training in industrial maintenance, electromechanical technology, or a related skilled trade preferred.

Experience Requirements: Substantial, progressively responsible industrial maintenance experience demonstrating independent diagnosis and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment failures.
