Job Description

  • Perform metallographic testing preparation, evaluations, records, and test approvals.
  • Train, evaluate, and direct laboratory technicians assigned to metallographic testing.
  • Develop and validate testing procedures for new alloys and requirements.
  • Review and interpret industry/customer specifications for conformance and implementation.
  • Communicate results to production and technical groups (e.g., reports & recommendations).
  • Oversee/coordinate maintenance & calibration of equipment by internal & external sources.
  • Maintain and order metallographic equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in budget planning & equipment purchases, including modifications or additions.
  • Maintain laboratory system in compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Support customer and third-party audits.
  • Perform duties of a general laboratory technician as needed.
  • Operate and modify Laboratory Information System as needed for new or modified tests.

Requirements

Required:

  • Understanding of laboratory’s testing and calibration methods
  • Ability to perform basic electrical and mechanical maintenance on testing equipment
  • Strong technical writing ability (technical specifications and procedures)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Computer skills are required (MS Office Suite, Testing Software, PLM&C, MAPICS, LIMS)

Preferred:

  • Post-secondary education in related areas (Associate’s Degree, or higher)
  • Experience in supervision of technical personnel
  • Experience in metallographic preparation and evaluation
  • Experience operating and maintaining chemical and/or mechanical testing equipment
  • Knowledge of advanced algebra, curve-fitting, statistical and regression analysis
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis of data in Excel
