Data Platform Engineer
Duration:
6-Month Contract to Hire

Position Overview
We are seeking a
Data Platform Engineer
with
8–10 years of hands-on experience
in SQL Server development, SQL Server administration, ETL using Microsoft Visual Studio, Stored Procedures, schema design, and enterprise data integration. The role includes building ETL pipelines, designing and maintaining SQL Server databases, implementing dimensional models, and supporting secure, reliable data flows across the organization. Responsibilities include ingesting data from diverse sources and delivering processed data to downstream applications via direct integrations or structured flat file outputs.

Key Technical Skills

  • SQL Server Development & Administration
    (installation, configuration, tuning, maintenance)

  • T-SQL Expertise
    (Stored Procedures, functions, triggers, complex queries, performance tuning)

  • ETL Development using Microsoft Visual Studio
    (SSIS or equivalent Visual Studio-based workflows)

  • Database Design & Architecture
    (schemas, tables, indexes, partitions, constraints)

  • User/Role Administration & Security Management
    (permissions, access control, least privilege)

  • Data Ingestion
    from diverse sources (databases, APIs, CSV, Excel, JSON, XML, SFTP)

  • Downstream Data Delivery
    (direct integrations, scheduled flat-file exports)

  • Dimensional Modelling
    (facts, dimensions, star/snowflake schemas)

  • Data Validation & Quality Controls

  • Troubleshooting
    of SQL Server, ETL jobs, pipelines, performance issues, and integration failures

  • Working knowledge of Cognos
    (reporting objects, data structures, SQL behind models)

  • Experience with IQMS
    (advantage but NOT required)

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform Development & Support

  • Build, configure, and maintain
    SQL Server databases
    , schemas, indexing, and data structures.

  • Develop and optimize
    Stored Procedures
    , T-SQL logic, and ETL components using Visual Studio.

  • Manage data ingestion from databases, APIs, and file-based sources (CSV, Excel, JSON).

  • Deliver processed data to downstream systems via
    direct integrations
    or
    flat-file exports
    .

  • Monitor and troubleshoot ETL jobs, scheduled tasks, and automated workflows.

  • Investigate discrepancies, system issues, and integration failures to ensure data reliability.

  • Support operational and financial month-end data processes.

  • Maintain enterprise dataflows, transformation logic, and data validation checks.

Dimensional Modelling & Reporting Support

  • Design and maintain
    dimensional models
    , including fact and dimension tables.

  • Ensure modeling consistency for reporting and analytical usage.

  • Maintain data models and scheduled reporting workflows.

  • Support Excel-based financial and operational reporting processes.

Security, Compliance & Documentation

  • Manage SQL Server roles, users, permissions, and access controls.

  • Maintain logs, backup reports, and audit trails.

  • Conduct security and access-compliance reviews.

  • Maintain documentation for dataflows, ETL processes, integrations, and operational procedures.

  • Provide periodic project updates, issue logs, and summaries to leadership.

Qualifications Required

  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience
    with SQL Server development, administration, and ETL using Microsoft Visual Studio.

  • Strong T-SQL skills, Stored Procedure development, query tuning, and schema design.

  • Experience implementing and managing SQL Server security frameworks.

  • Strong background in
    Dimensional Modelling
    (fact/dimension design, star/snowflake schemas).

  • Proven ability to ingest data from multiple source systems and deliver to downstream systems via integrations or flat files.

  • Experience supporting enterprise data warehouses or reporting environments.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation capabilities.

  • Knowledge in Cognos/Power BI .
