Perform various skilled work in the operation, maintenance, diagnostic, repair, adjustment, and alteration of HVAC systems.

Classification (level) and compensation is based on qualifications and experience as it relates to the position.
HVAC Technician: Generally, the hiring range is $58,395 to $72,994 annually.
Senior HVAC Technician: Generally, the hiring range is $65,991-$82,489 annually.

This position includes an annual clothing allowance of $400.

Typical work schedule: Four 10-hour days, typically Tuesday - Friday from 6am to 4:30 pm, additional day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The following examples are illustrative and are not intended to be all-inclusive.)

  • Diagnosis of HVAC equipment failures.
  • Performs all HVAC equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Performs repairs on HVAC equipment, including boilers, air handlers, DX systems, chillers, and numerous other types of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Installs HVAC and building automation systems and equipment.
  • Installs ductwork, low voltage controls, gas piping, and ventilation systems.
  • Responsible for rough-in and final trim of new systems.
  • Performs building automation preventative maintenance.
  • Responds to and investigates complaints of malfunctioning building comfort control equipment.
  • Monitor building efficiencies to include indoor air quality and energy use.
  • Respond to after-hours or emergency calls outside of regular scheduled or business hours.
  • Remodels existing systems. (Senior)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

HVAC Technician:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of professional journey-level HVAC experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Senior HVAC Technician:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of professional HVAC experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. A review of motor vehicle records is required at the time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check, including fingerprinting through a national database.

HVAC Technician:

  • Must possess an EPA approved Federal Refrigerant II certification.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Federal Universal Refrigeration License within 90 days of employment.

Senior HVAC Technician:

  • Must possess a Federal Universal Refrigeration License.

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
