Sr. Human Resources Generalist - Full-time Onsite

Title: Sr. Human Resources Generalist

Location: Buena Park, California

Type: Full-Time Onsite

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 (based on experience)

The Senior HR Generalist is a key member of the Leach human resources team, responsible for delivering both strategic and hands-on support across HR and payroll functions. This role is split evenly between payroll administration and HR generalist responsibilities, ensuring accurate payroll processing while driving HR initiatives that support employee engagement, compliance, and organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate brings strong technical payroll expertise, broad HR knowledge, and the ability to operate with a high level of independence and judgment.

Primary Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain and audit payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, and deductions.
  • Review and reconcile timekeeping data for compliance with California requirements (meal/rest breaks, overtime, double-time, split shifts, reporting timer pay); resolve discrepancies with managers and employees.
  • Administer payroll-related items such as garnishments, wage verifications, bonuses, commissions, and retroactive adjustments.
  • Monitor changes in wage and hour laws and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert and primary point of contact for payroll inquiries.

HR Generalist

  • Support full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Maintain HRIS data integrity and ensure compliant personnel file documentation per California requirements.
  • Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee education.
  • Provide guidance to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support employee relations by documenting issues, conducting preliminary investigations, and escalating appropriately.
  • Coordinate training programs, compliance initiatives, and employee engagement activities.
  • Contribute to HR policy updates, compliance audits, and continuous process improvements.
  • Partner with leadership on HR projects such as culture-building efforts and organizational development.

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is required.
  • Experience: 4-7 years of progressive experience in human resources, including payroll administration.
  • Strong knowledge of California labor laws, including wage & hour, leaves of absence, final pay, and local ordinances.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, PeopleSoft, Paylocity, UKG, Workday).
  • High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • HR or payroll certification (PHR, SHRM, or CPP)
