Job PurposeThe Senior HR Business Partner, Employee Relations supports the Employee Relations Manager by conducting workplace investigations, managing termination and separation processes, providing employee relations guidance to management, supporting litigation-related activities, and maintaining Employee Relations reporting, documentation, and compliance initiatives for Corporate and other non-Part Distribution Center (PDC) locations.This role requires strong investigation, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills while maintaining a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment. Approximately 20% travel is required.Key Accountabilities Employee Relations Investigations (30%)Conduct workplace investigations for Corporate and other non-PDC locations, including investigation planning, interviews, evidence collection and review, documentation, factual analysis, findings, recommendations, corrective actions, and investigation reports.Ensure investigations are conducted objectively, thoroughly, and in compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.ER Consultation & Employee Relations Support (20%)Provide guidance and support to managers regarding employee relations matters, disciplinary actions, corrective actions, performance concerns, and policy interpretation while ensuring compliance with employment laws, including EEO requirements.Prepare and review Disciplinary Action Notices (DANs) and related documentation consistent with company policies and investigation findings.Partner with managers and employees to resolve employee relations concerns through coaching, counseling, conflict resolution, and corrective action.Escalate complex or high-risk matters to the Employee Relations Manager as appropriate.Terminations & Separations (20%)Manage termination and separation processes for Corporate and other non-PDC locations, including case-history review, disciplinary documentation, policy analysis, supporting facts, risk assessment, approval coordination, final separation documentation, communication of employment decisions, and coordination of separation activities.Ensure employment decisions are supported by factual findings, consistent application of company policies, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.Reporting, Audits & Litigation Support (20%)Prepare and maintain Employee Relations reports, case trackers, audits, leadership updates, ad hoc reporting, and supporting documentation.Support employment claims, litigation, subpoenas, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal matters by preparing case documentation, investigative records, timelines, evidence files, and related materials.Documentation, Policies & Continuous Improvement (10%)Maintain confidential, organized, and audit-ready Employee Relations files, case documentation, and investigation records.Support the development and maintenance of Employee Relations templates, SOPs, training materials, policies, forms, and employee relations resources.Participate in policy updates, process improvements, training initiatives, and other assigned Employee Relations projects.Key Performance IndicatorsConduct workplace investigations for Corporate and other non-PDC locations in a timely, objective, and thorough manner, ensuring investigation plans, interviews, evidence, findings, recommendations, and reports are well documented and supported by factual evidence.Complete investigation reports that clearly identify allegations, facts, findings, conclusions, and recommendations while ensuring consistency with company policies and applicable employment laws.Manage termination and separation processes accurately and consistently, ensuring employment decisions are supported by documented facts, appropriate risk assessment, policy compliance, and required approvals.Prepare and review Disciplinary Action Notices (DANs), separation documents, and related employee relations documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with company policies and investigation findings.Communicate employment decisions to employees and coordinate required approvals, documentation, and follow-up activities to ensure timely and compliant completion of the separation process.Provide timely and practical employee relations guidance to managers regarding performance concerns, workplace conduct, discipline, policy interpretation, and employee relations matters.Partner with managers and employees to resolve workplace concerns through coaching, counseling, conflict resolution, and corrective action while supporting fair, consistent, and legally compliant outcomes.Escalate complex, high-risk, or legally sensitive employee relations matters to the Employee Relations Manager promptly and with complete supporting information.Prepare and maintain accurate Employee Relations reports, case trackers, audits, leadership updates, ad hoc reports, and supporting documentation.Monitor case status, deadlines, trends, risks, and required follow-up actions to ensure timely resolution of employee relations matters.Support employment claims, litigation, subpoenas, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal matters by preparing complete and organized case documentation, investigative records, timelines, evidence files, and supporting materials for review by the Employee Relations Manager and legal counsel.Maintain confidential, organized, and audit-ready Employee Relations files, investigation records, and case documentation in accordance with company requirements.Prepare, update, and maintain Employee Relations templates, SOPs, forms, training materials, policies, reports, trackers, and employee relations resources to support consistency, compliance, and operational effectiveness.Participate in policy updates, process improvements, training initiatives, and Employee Relations projects that enhance compliance, efficiency, and employee experience.Provide effective backup support for Employee Relations operations during absences, workload fluctuations, and other business needs, including investigations, reporting, litigation support, policy administration, case management, separation processes, and assigned Employee Relations projects.Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, confidentiality, and effective case-management practices while building productive relationships with managers, employees, HR partners, and business leaders.Maintain current knowledge of employment laws, employee relations best practices, and regulatory developments and apply that knowledge to day-to-day employee relations matters.Promote a respectful, compliant, and positive workplace culture while performing all responsibilities with accuracy, reliability, professionalism, and adaptability.Perform other duties as assigned.Major Challenges and Key DecisionsThis position requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills when managing workplace investigations, employee relations matters, disciplinary actions, and separation processes. Daily decisions are necessary to ensure compliance with employment laws, consistent application of company policies, effective case management, and timely resolution of employee relations concerns.The position must exercise sound judgment when conducting investigations, evaluating facts and evidence, preparing recommendations, managing disciplinary actions and separation documentation, communicating employment decisions, assessing employee relations risks, and determining when issues require escalation to senior leadership.Work Schedule and Travel RequirementsWork ScheduleMonday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.Flexible schedule at the discretion and approval of the manager.Travel RequiredMinimal overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air.
Experience Requirements4 to 7 years of progressive HR and Employee Relations experience required.Experience conducting workplace investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, attendance issues, performance concerns, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other employee relations matters.Experience managing disciplinary actions, terminations, and separation processes.Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulatory compliance requirements.Experience supporting multi-state operations preferred.Experience preparing reports, case documentation, audits, and employee relations metrics.Experience supporting employment claims or litigation matters in partnership with HR leadership and legal counsel preferred.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally.Education RequirementsBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Employment/Labor Relations, or a related field required; or equivalent experience required.Licenses / CertificationsPHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP preferred.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Employment Type - Exempt, Annual Salary
Compensation - The expected hiring range for this position is $62,518.54 - 92,214.85, depending on experience and qualifications.
