Job Description

Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Evident employs around 4,500 people at a total of 57 locations worldwide. Evident Europe, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, employs approximately 770 people in 16 countries. The product portfolio includes a wide range of microscope systems used in clinical diagnostics, medical and basic research, as well as in various industrial areas. In addition, Evident offers videoscopes, products for non-destructive testing techniques and for X-ray fluorescence analysis.

This position is responsible for global customs & trade compliance processes and daily import/export operations. As part of our Global Trade Compliance team, you will further participate in developing global standards and guidelines in import and export control law in strong collaboration with your international colleagues; in particular in the United States, Japan, China and Korea. You will lead a team of 3 colleagues in EMEA.

This position will lead one of the Global Trade Compliance (“GTC”) Centers of Excellence. In addition, this position will work closely with the GTC team members as well as local functions in EMEA (Senior Management, Commercial, Logistics, Finance, Sourcing, etc.) to shape the trade compliance strategy and ensure effective, compliant operations.

Tasks

  • Provide disciplinary leadership for the EMEA Trade Compliance & Customs team, including performance assessment, skills development, and continuous qualification of team members.
  • Responsible for managing trade and customs operations, including regulatory engagement, regional standards, and continuous improvement of compliance controls.
  • Represent the company as a primary point of contact in overseeing German trade law audits and investigations to communicate and confirm adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Lead the global classification program functioning as a GTC Center of Excellence, ensuring accurate import and export classifications in compliance with regulations.
  • Foster global alignment by partnering with regional GTC Centers of Excellence to facilitate trade compliance activities, provide expert guidance, and promote consistent standards and best practices across all regions.
  • Own the Evident import/export management system, driving process excellence through the implementation of robust internal controls, strategic partner management, risk mitigation, and comprehensive training programs to ensure full compliance with legal requirements.
  • Drive operational consistency across regions through the development and implementation of standardized global import and export compliance processes.
  • Partner with regional supply chain and commercial leadership to architect compliant, scalable cross-border logistics solutions that support business continuity and growth.
  • Maintain a consistent information flow by participating in GTC team meetings and training, channeling communications and training to regional staff, and following established escalation procedures for issues requiring GTC input.
  • Collaborate with the GTC team to identify opportunities to enhance the global implementation of automated GTC tools and systems.

Requirements

  • University degree in STEM field, economics or supply chain or expert knowledge proven by experience in the respective field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in trade compliance (export control and customs) and 2-3 years of managerial responsibility
  • Experience with global export control in EU and US or APAC
  • Experience in an internationally operating company is preferred
  • Ability to synthesize complex data sets and deliver strategic insights through advanced analytics and data visualization tools
  • Fluent knowledge of German and English
  • Experience in project work and process management
  • Very good knowledge of EU trade compliance (export control and customs), preference and excise law
  • Knowledge of customs software (e.g. Descartes, Dakosy and ATLAS)
  • Confident handling of MS Office programs and SAP
  • Possess strong self-reliance, initiative, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Chinese or Japanese a plus
