Spire is seeking a Sr. Gas Scheduler for our Houston office. This position will coordinate the receipt and delivery of gas between suppliers, markets, pipelines, storage operators, and others in order to ensure that company volumes are accurately tracked and monitored to ensure that billing and invoicing is correct. Works closely with trading personnel and accounting to communicate relevant information in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain records for all gas supply purchases, transportation, and sales for various SMI customers in order to manage the gas supply, transportation, and sales portfolios in an efficient and timely manner
  • Schedule interstate and intrastate pipeline and end-user volumes on a daily basis and try to minimize imbalance and scheduling charges that are caused by the misalignment of receipt and delivery volumes
  • Contact counterparty gas scheduling representatives to exchange scheduling information for both daily and monthly transactions to ensure that all purchase and sale volumes are scheduled on a timely basis
  • Review and summarize SMI’s pipeline contracts so that primary and discounted secondary receipt and delivery points can easily be obtained in a timely manner
  • Accurately account for all scheduled and allocated volumes so that the Gas Accountant can verify all purchase, sales, and transportation charges prior to month end closing
  • Monitor pipeline bulletin boards for both scheduled and unscheduled pipeline maintenance in order to avoid foreseen cuts on firm transportation contracts
  • Handle after-hours and weekend nomination issues by monitoring emails and phone calls from both pipeline and third-party representatives on an ongoing basis and contacting the gas supply buyers and other third parties as needed in order to resolve the issues
  • Maintain understanding of contractual commitments, pipeline rates, tariff regulations, and operational conditions on specific pipelines
  • Manage physical transactions in internal gas management system and to confirm 3rd party documents
  • Update and maintain all transport related data including discounts, current commitments, fuels and rates.
  • Track storage injections, withdrawals and imbalances
  • Manage all activity with a commercial focus and collaborative approach with physical traders
  • Monitor and guide with an effort to maximum utilization on all transport contracts
  • Work with trading personnel to ensure that imbalances are minimized to limit cash-out volatility
  • Provide mentoring and training to employees with less experience
  • Assist other internal departments such to ensure deals are managed according to their intent in a timely and accurate manner

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field required

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • 5+ years of Natural Gas Scheduling experience or related experience
