Job Description

What to Expect

Tesla’s Sensing Team is seeking an exceptional Software Development Engineer to develop the frameworks and infrastructure that validate the current and next generation of Tesla products. The Sensing Team works on sensors inside of Tesla vehicles that perform safety-critical functions. You will build and maintain the automated tools and test infrastructure that ensure we deliver high-quality, robust, and reliable software across all of these functions. With Tesla's fleet spanning millions of vehicles, your work will prove that the Sensing Team’s work holds up not just in the lab, but at scale in the real world. Join a team of engineers who solve challenging problems in embedded software by prioritizing automated validation—building test systems that scale with the product and catch issues before they ever reach a vehicle.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the HIL and SIL validation systems of safety-critical sensors in the vehicle
  • Define the automation infrastructure for Sensing Team validation systems
  • Maintain autonomous test and reporting infrastructure
  • Design and coordinate bring up of automated test fixtures
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop scenarios, test cases, and write test code to test sensors using hardware- and software-in-the-loop testing environments
  • Work cross-functionally to investigate issues and validate fixes
  • Own validation sign-off for software releases
  • Write and debug embedded C firmware to enable functionality required for sensor validation

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years prior experience in embedded systems, software engineering (or similar role)
  • Experience working with Linux systems
  • Ability to develop and debug multi-threaded Python code
  • Ability to understand, test, and troubleshoot complicated system interactions
  • Experience developing tests with reusable and robust code
  • Ability to develop test guidelines from specifications
  • Experience communicating with hardware over common interfaces (e.g. UART, CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet)
  • Working knowledge of application-level firmware development (e.g. RTOS, I/O, interrupts)
  • Technical understanding of development tools, source control, and continuous integration build systems, e.g. GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory, CI/CD pipelines
