Job Description

We are hiring for this position out of our Vancouver location. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About the role:

The Senior Financial Analyst, Strategic Finance plays a key role in enabling enterprise-wide decision-making by providing rigorous financial analysis, insights, and benchmarking for strategic initiatives. This role partners closely with business leaders, strategy teams, and finance stakeholders to assess the financial impact of major initiatives, including transformation programs, product launches, investment decisions, operational efficiencies, and regulatory changes.

The successful candidate combines strong financial acumen, data-driven thinking, and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear executive-level insights.

About the day-to-day:

Financial Impact Analysis

  • Lead the development of end-to-end financial impact assessments for enterprise strategic initiatives, including valuations, cost-benefit analysis, ROI, return on equity, NPV, IRR, and payback period calculations.
  • Build and maintain robust financial models to evaluate multiple scenarios and sensitivities.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Strategy, Product, Risk, Technology, Operations) to gather inputs and validate assumptions.
  • Support business case development for investment proposals and executive approvals.

Strategic Decision Support

  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership on financial implications of strategic options, preparing executive and board-level materials, including presentations and briefing notes.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across Finance, Strategy, and Operations Business Units.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear narratives for executive presentations.
  • Support prioritization of strategic initiatives based on financial and operational impact.

Benchmarking & Market Insights

  • Conduct internal and external benchmarking analysis to assess performance against peer financial institutions (e.g., profitability, cost efficiency, returns, credit risk)
  • Leverage industry data, market research, and financial disclosures to inform model assumptions and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare benchmarking summaries and insights for leadership forums and board-level reporting.

Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Track financial performance of approved initiatives against business cases and forecasts.
  • Identify variances, risks, and opportunities, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting frameworks to monitor initiative outcomes.

About the qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • CPA or CFA designation required, CBV preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, strategic finance, consulting (big 4), or banking.
  • Proven track record supporting enterprise-level initiatives or transformation programs.
  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills (including DCF, comps analysis, forecasting, etc.)
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with data visualization and cleansing tools (e.g., Power BI, Power Query) is an asset.
  • Ability to synthesize large data sets into concise insights and familiarity with banking metrics (e.g., ROE, efficiency ratio, net interest margin)
  • Confident presenting to senior leadership and translating complex concepts.
  • Ability to balance multiple high priority projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills, (verbal + written) with an ability to deliver insights around business problems in thoughtful and persuasive manner.
  • A proactive mindset and can thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment.

About the work environment:

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Hiring process:

Compensation:

The expected salary for this role is approximately $80,000 - $100,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
