Job Description

The Facilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment within the facility, including HVAC systems, pumps, compressors, piping systems, and other mechanical infrastructure. The technician ensures all mechanical systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards and local regulations. This role supports the overall facility operations to minimize downtime and ensure a safe working environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, chillers, air compressors, pumps, and plumbing systems.
2. Monitor and maintain mechanical equipment performance and report any abnormalities or failures.
3. Assists Facilities Engineer with day-to-day projects and special projects.
4. Assists Facilities Engineer with design of mechanical equipment/control as needed.
5. Conduct repairs or replacements of faulty mechanical components using appropriate tools and methods.
6. Work closely with other technicians and departments to support facility operations and resolve system issues.
7. Assist in commissioning, testing, and validation of new mechanical installations or upgrades.
8. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational procedures during all work activities.
9. Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform corrective actions promptly.
10. Coordinate with contractors and vendors for outsourced repair or maintenance works when required.
11. Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the production processes and components, business and other technology including materials.
12. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Penang Science Park, Simpang Ampat.
  • Works in light manufacturing and construction environment.
  • May also work in standard office environment and use general office equipment (phone, PC, copier, fax machine etc.).
  • Working in shift pattern.
  • Weekend work and over-time may be necessary at times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a Chargeman AO certificate is a MUST.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, pumps, compressors, and piping systems.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical theory and application, plumbing and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Hands on experience with PC’s and related programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Good troubleshooting skills and preventive maintenance skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in shift pattern.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in facility maintenance, preferably in semiconductor, electronics or chemical manufacturing.
  • Experience in mechanical applications, plumbing and construction.
  • Prefer junior-level experience with plumbing and mechanical work.

EDUCATION:

Essential:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Prefer industrial background/education.
