The pay range is $132,000.00 - $238,000.00

About Team

As part of Target’s Workforce Management portfolio, this team delivers enterprise-scale solutions that power timekeeping, forecasting, and scheduling for more than 400,000 hourly team members. The Senior Engineering Manager will lead product teams focused on implementing and extending UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) Workforce Management capabilities, including forecasting, scheduling, and core timekeeping.

In parallel, the team builds strategic extensions beyond the UKG platform to meet Target’s scale and experience needs. This includes internally developed solutions such asSmartClocks, a custom, open-source-based time capture platform designed for high-volume, real-time store operations. The team combines UKG capabilities with custom engineering, including Java and Spring Boot services, to enable seamless integrations, enhance user experiences, and deliver differentiated capabilities. This leader will help shape architectural direction, ensure interoperability across systems such as Workday, and contribute to a modern, decoupled workforce management ecosystem.

About SEM

The Sr. Engineering Manager (SEM) leads a team of engineers responsible for building, integrating, and operating Workforce Management solutions that support critical functions such as time capture,laborforecasting, and workforce scheduling. This includes ownership of both UKG platform capabilities and custom-built extensions, such asSmartClocksand supporting services, to deliver a cohesive and scalable end-to-end solution. This roleoperatesin close partnership with other engineering leaders across the Workforce Management domain, collectively delivering integrated, end-to-end solutions at enterprise scale.

This roleoperateswithin a broader, ongoing modernization of Target’s Workforce Management platform and ecosystem. The SEM is expected to deliver scalable, well-integrated solutions aligned with evolving architectural direction. Success in this role requires balancing UKG platform capabilities with targeted open-source development, exercising strong technical judgment on where to extend versus adopt, and delivering reliably in a complex, highly integrated environment. The SEM partners closely with Product, HR stakeholders, and vendor teams, andrepresentsthe team in cross-functional planning and architecture discussions. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape how workforce technology evolves at enterprise scale.

About you:

Four-year degree or equivalent experience

10+ years of experience in software development and team management

Expertisein Java programming languages

Experience evaluatingnew technologiesandparticipatingin decision-making, considering factors such as viability within Target’s technical environment, compliance requirements, approved tech status, maintainability, and cost of ownership

Proven ability to deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions with broad impact

Experience leading functional design and architecture discussions, with an understanding of process flows and system diagrams to support design decisions

Provides technical oversight and coaching to others in resolving technical issues

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performedboth onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually,depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
