About Pyramid: The Identity & Access Management team within Cyber Solutions is responsible for delivering the capabilities that secure access to Target resources globally for our Team Members, contractors, partners, and Guests. From authentication to encryption, from certificate management to identity management, from humans to workloads, we focus on leveraging robust engineering principles, open standards, common target tech patterns, and a passionate and motivated team of engineers to turn ideas into solutions and outcomes.

About Team: The Strong Authentication team provides authentication capabilities to protect Target applications, data, and business processes for Enterprise users as well as Partners and Third Parties. This team has to seamlessly balance Security objectives with User Experience, constantly adapting and maturing as Threat Actors pivot. To do this, we use in-house developed capabilities and strong organizational partnerships to achieve shared goals.

About a Senior Engineering Manager (SEM):

The Sr. Engineering Manager (SEM) is responsible for managing a team of engineers. This role is accountable for leading a team, developing code, deploying and managing in production. Most importantly, the SEM, while working alongside the Product Manager, drives the product Net Promoter Score (NPS), user satisfaction, building the product roadmap and delivering highly functional, exceptionally innovative and intelligent software. You will be called upon to be the technical representative for your team during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning. Success in this role will require strong and innovative approaches to problem solving, great technical leadership, excellent communication (written and verbal, formal and informal), flexibility, accountability and a self-motivated working style with attention to detail.

  • Lead a team to build a suite of tools, processes, and capabilities to ensure we defend against an evolving threat landscape, while balancing Security and User Experience for our users.
  • Stay current with industry standards and Cyber- and Identity-Security trends to leverage appropriate capabilities to deliver Cybersecurity outcomes.
  • Partner with our Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence team to understand Threat Actor TTPs to reduce risk and ensure optimal defense capabilities to protect Target
  • Use innovation and critical thinking to solve complex security and technology problems.
  • Establish good stakeholder relationships and work closely with Tech teams, influence the product roadmap and help drive requirements while being a strong advocate of agile and DevOps practices across the team.
  • Execution of the team-developed strategy, solving enterprise-wide problems and addressing key security concerns.
  • Provide career development and performance management to a team of engineers.
  • Elevate your collective team’s performance by providing insightful, motivating, and constructive feedback to all roles on the team while also working with senior leadership and peers across pyramids to negotiate and remove execution-related barriers for your team.


About you:

  • 4 year degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 1-3 years of managing teams with a strong track record of delivery for cross-functional products
  • Expertise in Java programming languages
  • Proven ability to deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions with broad impact
  • Experience leading functional design and architecture discussions, with an understanding of process flows and system diagrams to support design decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to variety of audiences
  • Team-orientated, passionate about developing others’ skills and capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical oversight and coaching to others in resolving technical issues
  • Successful track record of working in large enterprise technology ecosystems leading complex technology teams
  • Deep understanding of agile development processes and methodology including continuous integration and delivery, with a mindset of building incrementally and delivering business value quickly
  • Strong collaboration skills, effective management of complex cross-team initiatives and leads with the desire to enable our engineering teams.
  • Experience evaluating new technologies and participating in decision-making, considering factors such as viability within Target’s technical environment, compliance requirements, approved tech status, maintainability, and cost of ownership
