A Day in the Life

The Senior Engineering Group Manager – Automation is responsible for leading regional automation deployment and execution, translating strategic automation objectives into site-level implementation and delivery. This role drives end-to-end automation programs, develops engineering talent, and ensures consistent application of standards, validation, and best practices across sites.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

Automation Delivery & Execution

  • Lead deployment of AMRs, cobots, automated cells, and vision inspection systems across Caribbean Region manufacturing sites
  • Own execution from Concept, Feasibility, Design, FAT/SAT, Validation, and production release
  • Ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure KTM methodology is used during execution and deployment of the projects.

Program & Project Leadership

  • Manage regional automation portfolio, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Identify risks early and implement mitigation and recovery (back-to-green) plans
  • Drive delivery aligned to business priorities (capacity, cost optimization, quality)

Technical Leadership & Innovation

  • Guide development of automation architectures and reusable solutions
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (AMR fleets, collaborative robotics, machine vision) for scalability and ROI
  • Ensure alignment to standard platforms and engineering best practices

Site & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and site engineering teams
  • Drive strong site ownership, readiness, and sustainment models
  • Communicate program status, risks, and performance to leadership

Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Lead engagement with OEMs and system integrators
  • Ensure design compliance, timeline adherence, and delivery quality
  • Participate in supplier selection, RFQ, and technical reviews

Operational Excellence & Governance

  • Enforce Stage Gate Processes, Validation Lifecycle, and Documentation standards
  • Drive consistent use of KTM, governance cadences, and reporting tools
  • Champion standardization and continuous improvement initiatives

People Management – Functional Career Stream

  • Leads a team of engineers and/or first-line managers
  • Focus on execution excellence, talent development, and engagement

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set clear goals aligned to regional automation delivery objectives
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and development planning
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration
  • Responsible for ensuring all financial aspects of the project are achieved, including project expenses, capital expenditures, and delivery of projected cost savings in alignment with approved forecasts and business objectives.
  • Responsible for developing a project pipeline for the Caribbean to ensure future FY are met
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a robust project pipeline for the Caribbean region to ensure a sustainable portfolio of initiatives that supports the achievement of future fiscal year objectives, savings targets, and strategic business goals.

Autonomy

  • Operates with regional accountability, executing against defined automation strategy
  • Translates strategy into tactical execution plans and deliverables
  • Decision-making authority on technical approach, resource allocation, and prioritization

Organizational Impact

  • Directly impacts manufacturing performance, capacity expansion, and cost optimization
  • Drives execution of critical automation programs across multiple sites
  • Influences timeline adherence, capital efficiency, and business outcomes

Innovation and Complexity

  • Solves complex challenges across robotics integration, vision systems, and automated cells
  • Applies expertise in controls systems, validation, and manufacturing processes
  • Develop scalable solutions within standardized frameworks

Communication and Influence

  • Engage with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders at all levels
  • Communicates program performance, risks, and mitigation strategies clearly
  • Influences alignment across functions to ensure successful deployment and adoption

Leadership and Talent Management

  • Leads a regional automation engineering function
  • Develops next-generation talent in automation and advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Supports hiring, onboarding, and succession planning
  • Build strong relationships across sites and global engineering teams

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Engineering
  • and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.
  • 25% of travel

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • 12+ years of engineering experience with 3–5+ years of people leadership
  • Strong experience in:
    • Automation systems (AMRs, cobots, cells, vision systems)
    • Manufacturing / operations environments
    • Project and program management of capital equipment
  • Experience with validation lifecycle (IQ/OQ/PQ) in regulated industries
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex, multi-site automation program
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing automation deployment preferred
  • PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent certification
  • Experience implementing advanced automation technologies and digital integration (MES, data systems) preferred
  • Strong vendor management and RFQ / supplier selection experience preferred

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
