The Sr Engineer Enterprise Data Intelligence builds and manages data pipelines, transformations, and analytics infrastructure that support Houston ISD’s enterprise reporting needs. Focusing on operational data from Oracle Fusion, SAP, and related platforms, this role ensures timely, accurate, and secure access to financial, HR, and procurement data across the district. The Senior Engineer is responsible for implementing enterprise reporting structures in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, supporting both real-time dashboards and historical analysis.

1. Design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines for enterprise systems.
2. Work with Oracle Fusion, SAP, and other data sources to extract, transform, and load data into reporting structures.
3. Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to define datasets, KPIs, and delivery schedules.
4. Optimize performance and reliability of reporting datasets and visualizations.
5. Implement best practices in data engineering, version control, and change management.
6. Monitor data refreshes, investigate failures, and ensure timely resolution.
7. Apply security and privacy rules for user-level data access across Power BI and Fabric workspaces.
8. Support ad hoc data requests, rapid prototyping, and iterative development.
9. Document workflows, mappings, data structures, and lineage for support and audit readiness.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related technical field required.

Minimum of 5 years in data engineering or business intelligence roles with enterprise data sources. Experience with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric required. Oracle or SAP experience strongly preferred.
• Strong SQL and data wrangling skills
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines)
• Power BI development and publishing experience
• Understanding of ERP data schemas and financial/HR structures
• Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills
• Certifications in Microsoft data stack or Power BI preferred
May mentor junior engineers or data developers. Leads by example in documentation, process discipline, and reliability.
Resolves complex technical issues independently. Designs reusable frameworks and components to scale data engineering efforts.
None. May advise on software tools or cloud consumption planning.
Troubleshoots failing data loads, data quality issues, and performance bottlenecks. Develops efficient, scalable solutions to new reporting needs.
Supports districtwide reporting accuracy and system trust. Failures may delay payroll, HR, or financial planning functions.
Works with analysts, developers, platform teams, and department users to define needs and deliver results.
Acts as a reliable, responsive technical partner for business units seeking access to trusted, actionable data.
May require evening/weekend hours during data launches or platform.
