Job Description

The Steam Generation Projects Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer to lead and support critical projects that enhance the reliability, efficiency, and performance of Con Edisons steam generation assets. This role provides the opportunity to drive innovative engineering solutions, manage complex capital and maintenance projects, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe and reliable plant operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing instrumentation, control, and automation initiatives that contribute to the continued success of Con Edisons energy infrastructure while supporting the companys commitment to operational excellence, safety, and sustainability.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering support, studies, and project development for Steam Generation facilities, including capital project execution from scoping through commissioning and closeout.
  • Provide technical support to Steam Operations by troubleshooting equipment and system issues, performing root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain control strategies for water treatment, feedwater, combustion, emissions, turbine/generator, and steam distribution systems.
  • Prepare engineering designs, physical layouts, schematics, construction drawings, and cost estimates.
  • Develop construction and equipment procurement specifications; evaluate vendor proposals and technical submittals.
  • Design and implement instrumentation, control, process, and related plant systems.
  • Support the development of operating, maintenance, commissioning, and testing procedures.
  • Participate in project planning activities, including budgets, appropriations, scoping, design reviews, field walks, and cost evaluations.
  • Perform field investigations, equipment evaluations, failure analyses, and engineering assessments to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for Engineering Service Requests (ESRs) and other engineering initiatives as needed.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Maritime, Electrical or Chemical Engineering and 8 years of engineering work experience, to include one year of Power Generation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or Operations, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in applied science (Physics, Chemistry) PLUS a Master's of Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical engineering and 8 years of engineering work experience, to include one year of Power Generation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or Operations, or
  • Master's Degree with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years of engineering work experience, to include one year of Power Generation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or Operations.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, required.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with employees at all organizational levels, required.
  • Knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles, required.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and engineering software applications, required.
  • Ability to lead initiatives independently and provide technical oversight and guidance to department personnel, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop engineering standards, prepare specifications, and coordinate project activities, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Driver's License Required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel both regionally and continent-wide, to attend conferences, meetings, etc. as needed.
