The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Central Engineering team based in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent position.

The position involves regular trips to underground mines and to the various surface plants.

As a senior member of the Central Engineering team, the Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical expertise on electrical and control systems within Vale’s Manitoba Operations. The Senior Engineer will provide innovative engineering solutions, technical support to operating plants and mines, technical direction to external engineering consultants & construction contractors and will also provide technical guidance and mentoring to other members of the Central Engineering team.

About You

Education:

  • An Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Eligible for registration as a licensed professional engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of (10) ten years of experience in the Electrical Engineering field.
  • Experience in an industrial work environment is a requirement.
  • Familiar with latest codes, acts and regulations and keeps abreast of technology and latest developments in his/her design field.
  • Experience in leadership.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, motor controls including soft starters & VFDs, transformers, motors, including maintenance and testing.
  • Strong knowledge on performing power system studies.
  • Knowledge and experience with industrial control systems and instrumentation is highly desirable.
  • Understanding and application of risk assessment and process hazards review processes.
