The Sr. Electrical Engineering Technician - Quality is a senior technical member of the Rapid Electronics Prototyping (REP) team. This role serves as the quality subject matter expert for prototype PCB assembly operations, ensuring electronic assemblies meet the highest standards of workmanship, reliability, and manufacturability. This position is responsible for programming and operating advanced inspection equipment, driving root cause investigations, providing DFM and process feedback to engineering teams, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the prototype manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate combines strong technical inspection skills with a passion for coaching others, solving complex manufacturing challenges, and elevating overall product quality.

You’ll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Program and operate advanced inspection equipment including AOI, X-Ray, SPI, and visual inspection systems to verify workmanship and compliance to IPC standards.
  • Serve as the primary quality expert for prototype PCB assembly processes, partnering with technicians, engineers, and designers to improve product quality and manufacturability.
  • Analyze assembly defects, inspection findings, and process trends to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Provide real-time quality feedback and process recommendations to assembly personnel and engineering teams.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of PCB assemblies, solder joints, component placement, polarity, workmanship, and mechanical integration.
  • Perform and support rework, repair, and failure analysis activities using schematics, assembly documentation, and specialized rework equipment.
  • Collaborate with PCB Designers and Electrical Engineers to provide DFM, DFA, and assembly process recommendations early in the development cycle.
  • Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to technicians and engineers on IPC standards, workmanship expectations, inspection techniques, and quality best practices.
  • Promote and maintain ESD, safety, and quality discipline throughout assembly and inspection operations.

What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:

  • Associate Degree from a two-year college or technical school. Equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of SMT, through-hole, and mixed-technology assembly processes.
  • Extensive understanding of IPC-A-610 and electronic assembly workmanship standards.
  • Experience programming and operating automated inspection equipment such as AOI, X-Ray, SPI, or related systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, Gerber files, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong understanding of component identification, package types, polarity, and electronic assembly best practices.
  • Ability to perform detailed inspections using microscopes and other inspection tools.

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

  • IPC-A-610 certification.
  • Experience with Koh Young AOI/SPI systems.
  • Experience with electronic X-Ray inspection systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced rework techniques.
  • Experience supporting quality management systems and audit activities.
