Johnson & Johnson is hiring for a Sr EH&S Manager to join our team located in Coyol, Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager Costa Rica is responsible for leading the EH&S function for the Costa Rica site, including management and development of the site EH&S team. This position is accountable for ensuring effective implementation and continuous improvement of EH&S programs and management systems to maintain regulatory compliance, manage EH&S risk, protect employees, and support business objectives.
The Sr EH&S Manager Costa Rica serves as the primary EH&S leader and subject matter expert for the site and partners with site leadership and cross-functional teams to integrate EH&S requirements into operations and business decisions. The role operates with a high degree of independence while maintaining alignment with the Multi-Site EH&S Manager and broader organizational EH&S strategy and standards
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related technical discipline.
· Minimum 10 years of progressive EH&S experience, including significant experience supporting manufacturing operations.
· Minimum 3 years of demonstrated people-management experience, including direct responsibility for leading, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of professional employees.
· Demonstrated experience leading an EH&S function or team, including establishing priorities, managing resources, and ensuring effective execution of EH&S programs.
· Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
· Experience with regulatory compliance, EH&S risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, and internal/external audits.
· Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or another regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
· Strong knowledge and practical application of Costa Rican occupational health, safety, and environmental regulatory requirements.
· Strong technical knowledge of EH&S principles, risk assessment, and controls applicable to manufacturing operations.
· Demonstrated leadership, people-management, coaching, and team-development skills.
· Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with employees, technical professionals, and senior leadership.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and project-management skills.
· Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
· High degree of ownership, accountability, initiative, and sound judgment.
· Professional proficiency in Spanish and English.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business systems.
Additional Requirements
· Regular onsite presence is required to support site operations, leadership, and the EH&S team.
· Ability to adjust work schedule as needed to support critical EH&S activities, audits, and emergency response.
· Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%, including trips of up to one week, based on business needs.
· Valid passport and U.S. visa required to support international business travel.
