The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Driver to work in the UHealth Campus.

Core Job Summary
The Sr. Driver provides secure and dependable transportation services for assigned department(s). Furthermore, the Sr. Driver ensures that vehicle operation activities comply at all times with established safe driving methods and standards, University policies and procedures, and external rules and regulations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Reports any criminal or suspicious activities.
  • Informs appropriate staff regarding hazardous road conditions and any traffic citations, violations, or incidents.
  • Conducts visual and physical inspection of the assigned vehicle before, during, and after operation.
  • Refuels and cleans the interior of the vehicle.
  • Reports and addresses any maintenance problems or vehicle service needs.
  • Maintains contact with and follows all instructions and directions from managing staff.
  • Follows all established routes and takes detours only when absolutely necessary.
  • Keeps accurate time schedules and other necessary records.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required
Valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License required
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered

Department Specific Functions

  • Operate the IDRU Mobile Research Unit and other department vehicles, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of research staff, participants, specimens, supplies, equipment, and study materials.
  • Support the deployment and operation of the IDRU Mobile Research Unit (Class C RV, approximately 31–32 feet in length), including vehicle transportation, setup, breakdown, and logistical support for community-based and clinical research activities.
  • Coordinate the transport, delivery, retrieval, and documentation of research specimens, supplies, and equipment in accordance with established protocols, chain-of-custody requirements, temperature-control standards, biosafety practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the operational readiness of the mobile research unit and associated equipment by conducting routine inspections, monitoring inventory and supplies, monitoring generators, refrigeration units, temperature monitoring devices, and other operational systems, completing vehicle logs and safety checklists, and ensuring all required certifications, registrations, maintenance records, and preventive maintenance activities remain current.
  • Monitor and report vehicle, equipment, maintenance, and safety issues, coordinating required repairs, servicing, inspections, and corrective actions to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and clinical readiness of the mobile research unit and associated vehicles, including routine cleaning, supply replenishment, disposal of biohazardous materials, and deep-cleaning activities (e.g., research space, restrooms, external sections of the vehicle) in accordance with institutional policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, HIPAA, biosafety, infection control, University policies, and research protocol requirements, including protecting participant confidentiality and maintaining required operational records.
  • Participate in required trainings, competency assessments, emergency preparedness activities, and incident response procedures supporting mobile research operations
