About the Role
The Senior Director, Strategy & Execution owns go-to-market strategy and execution governance for PSI, a global leader in assessment and workforce solutions serving the professional certification, licensure, and government assessment markets through an owned portfolio of assessment products and multiple routes to market. The role is accountable for translating corporate and business unit objectives into a clear, prioritized GTM strategy across all motions – direct, channel, and partner – and for building the operating cadence, roadmaps, and governance that ensure the strategy is executed with accountability and pace. The role also owns the long-range plan (LRP) and the portfolio of core growth bets, from opportunity sizing and market testing through to route-to-market recommendations.
The role also directly owns the channel, alliances, and partner marketing function, including partner enablement across the portfolio. The Senior Director leads the channel, alliances, and partner marketing team, and works hand-in-hand with the enterprise Alliances leadership to develop co-marketing and joint go-to-market strategies with strategic partners. As operating cadence, roadmaps, and governance mature, the role is expected to define and stand up a Strategy Enablement / Project Management capability to scale execution support.
Sitting on the leadership team of the commercial operations, strategy, and marketing organization, the Senior Director operates as a cross-functional leader: supporting the General Managers of the business units that sit within the commercial office – and the wider business – on strategic direction, and working in combination with all commercial functions, spanning demand generation, integrated marketing, product marketing and commercialization, and commercial and revenue operations. A key partnership is with the corporate insights team, leveraging market insights and data to inform strategic direction, prioritization, and performance management.
This role is a full-time permanent position, flexible from Monday to Friday during typical office hours. There will be occasional requirements to work non-traditional hours including evenings or weekends, and occasional domestic and international travel for events, meetings, and workshops. Day-to-day, this role can be performed remotely.
Role Responsibilities
Enterprise GTM Strategy & Planning
- Own the go-to-market strategy across all motions and routes to market, translating corporate and business unit objectives into annual and multi-year strategic roadmaps.
- Lead the strategic planning cycle for the commercial organization, ensuring priorities, investments, and headcount plans are aligned to growth objectives and revenue targets.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior commercial leadership, functional leaders, and business unit General Managers, pressure-testing plans, surfacing trade-offs, and ensuring coherence across functions and regions.
Long-Range Plan & Growth Bets
- Own the long-range plan (LRP), including the growth narrative, investment cases, and the phasing of strategic bets across the planning horizon.
- Identify, size, and prioritize the core growth opportunities and growth bets, owning the portfolio of bets and their stage gates from thesis through to scale.
- Partner with Product and business leadership to develop new market opportunities, including expansion into adjacent markets – working with the corporate insights team to size and test markets, validate demand, and advise on bet strategy and route to market.
- Track the performance and returns of growth bets, recommending double-down, pivot, or exit decisions to leadership.
Execution Governance & Operating Cadence
- Design and run the operating cadence for the commercial organization, including planning rhythms, business reviews, and decision forums that drive accountability and pace.
- Establish and maintain execution governance – objectives, KPIs, milestones, and stage gates – across strategic initiatives, ensuring clear ownership and transparent progress reporting.
- Lead cross-functional programs and strategic initiatives end-to-end where required, unblocking issues and coordinating dependencies across teams.
- Define and, once cadence and governance are established, stand up a Strategy Enablement / Project Management capability to scale execution support across the organization.
Channel, Alliances & Partner Marketing
- Lead the channel marketing function, setting strategy and priorities for partner-driven routes to market across the portfolio.
- Own alliances marketing, developing co-marketing and joint go-to-market strategies with strategic partners in combination with the enterprise Alliances leadership.
- Own partner enablement across the portfolio, ensuring channel partners are equipped, activated, and performing against agreed targets across international markets.
- Establish partner marketing performance measures, including partner-sourced and partner-influenced pipeline, and use them to prioritize investment.
Cross-Functional Orchestration & Insights
- Act as a cross-functional strategic partner to the General Managers of the business units within the commercial office – and the wider business – aligning go-to-market plans to each business unit’s growth agenda.
- Work in combination with all teams under the commercial office – spanning demand generation, integrated marketing, product marketing and commercialization, and commercial and revenue operations – to ensure strategy translates into coordinated, executable plans.
- Partner closely with the corporate insights team, leveraging market insights and data to inform strategic direction, prioritization, and performance management.
- Act as a connective leader across functions, identifying gaps, overlaps, and opportunities in the go-to-market system and driving resolution.
Team Leadership & Development
- Directly manage, coach, and develop the Strategy & Execution team, including channel and partner marketing leads.
- Lead full employee lifecycle responsibilities including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Build a high-trust, high-accountability team culture that models the operating discipline expected across the wider organization.
Performance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Own reporting on strategy delivery to executive leadership and senior stakeholders, including progress against roadmaps, growth-bet performance, initiative health, and risks.
- Continuously improve planning, governance, and execution processes based on outcomes, feedback, and best practice.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
- Education to Bachelor’s degree level in a relevant field, e.g. business, marketing, economics, or strategy; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive experience across strategy, go-to-market, or commercial roles, including senior leadership experience in a B2B or B2B2C environment.
- Proven track record designing and running strategic planning cycles, operating cadences, and execution governance in a complex, multi-brand or multi-market organization.
- Experience developing long-range plans and investment cases, including opportunity sizing, market testing, and business case development for growth bets.
- Experience assessing and entering new or adjacent markets, working with insights, product, and commercial teams to validate demand and define routes to market.
- Strong experience in channel, alliances, or partner marketing, including co-marketing with strategic partners and partner enablement programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional programs and drive accountability without direct authority, across marketing, sales, product, and operations teams.
- Experience building or scaling strategy enablement, PMO, or transformation capabilities preferred.
- Highly analytical, with experience using market, competitor, and customer insights to shape strategy and investment decisions.
- Excellent executive communication, facilitation, and influencing skills, with credibility at C-suite level.
- Experience leading and developing teams, including managers and senior individual contributors, across geographies.
- Experience in the assessment, certification, education, testing, or SaaS industries preferred.
- Strong global market experience, including partner-driven and multi-region go-to-market models.
