Job Description

This role will manage the operational safety & security for Marriott businesses within the Northeast U.S. Region and at Marriott International Headquarters (MIHQ). You will evangelize the mission of the Global Safety & Security Department, managing risk and enhancing business by applying pragmatic controls, specialized technical knowledge, and advanced problem-solving techniques. You will provide day-to-day leadership, overseeing the daily operations related to safety and security within your designated region and at MIHQ. This includes providing clear guidance and direction to ensure that all safety and security protocols are effectively implemented and maintained. Additionally, you must keep both the Area Vice Presidents and the Head of Security Operations for Global Safety and Security, U.S./Canada consistently updated and informed about any significant issues or developments in these areas.

LOCATION

This position is hybrid to our Marriott Headquaters located in Bethesda, MD. The role requires up to 25% travel.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive security and crisis management experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in a leadership role with a proven track record of managing and developing diverse, service-driven teams in deadline-intensive environments.

  • Leadership experience in operational and technical security domains, with a track record of influencing business team strategies and guiding critical decisions. You are the person others rely upon to solve problems beyond their abilities.

  • Experience advising senior leadership and working in fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and resilience under constantly changing conditions. You are the calm voice in the room when everyone else is stressed out.

  • Proven ability to build and sustain strong networks and relationships, both internally and externally across team and with external key stakeholders. You are a gifted networker, aware of your shortcomings, and know whom to contact for trusted support.

Preferred

  • Undergraduate (four-year) degree in applicable field (e.g., business management, homeland security, security management, criminal justice, etc.).

  • Specialized credentials inferring commitment to the industry and professional improvement. These include the CPP, PSP, CLSD, CLSO, CFE, and/or advanced degrees or certificate programs in applicable areas of study (e.g., homeland security, security management, insider risk management, risk management, etc.).

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Oversee safety & security operations for a specified geographical area of the Americas and MIHQ.

  • Lead crisis management efforts, including disaster mitigation, tier-level emergency processes and provide backup crisis support to other Regional Senior Directors.

  • Identify vulnerabilities that erode profits or have the potential to do so.Target high-risk properties with Marriott International business leaders and Area VPs to initiate effective action plans.

  • Promote compliance with Marriott International policies and all federal, state and local codes.

  • Utilize Safety & Security Communication packages, training programs and approved vendors to effectively promote an environment free from hazards at each property. Ensure that each assigned property is meeting the proper standard of care for the protection of guests and associates.

  • Manage program schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective results.

  • Develop and maintains strong relationships with Regional Sr. Directors, property Safety & Security leaders, Human Resources, Legal, Crisis Communications, Franchise Services, Investigations, Ethics & Compliance, Americas Team Members, and Regional Claims offices to guide and/or consult with, as appropriate, to effectively influence business decisions and financial outcomes while optimizing effectiveness.

  • Partner with Crisis Communications, Franchise Services, Sales & Marketing, and Department of Investigations to provide assurance of Marriott’s safety and security protocols for prospective conferences and special events being held at Marriott properties.

  • Using knowledge of Marriott’s business and scanning the competitive environment, anticipate and identify opportunities and challenges to respond with effective strategies and actions that are aligned with overarching services delivered by GS&S.

  • Develop policies and training programs in safety & security to ensure that all regional properties have effective loss control, crisis, and security management plans are in place.
