Job Description
The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is seeking a Sr. Director, Project Management to lead, plan, and manage strategic priorities and initiatives for the School of Medicine (SOM) Education Compliance Office. This role reports to the Executive Director, SOM Education Compliance in the Office of Vice Dean for Education. The Sr. Director oversees a portfolio of key projects and initiatives that strengthen the compliance framework and ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and ethical standards, specifically as they relate to nondiscrimination obligations in educational programs and institutional resource groups. The educational programs and resource groups covered by the Compliance Office include admissions for medical and graduate school, residency and clinical fellowship programs, postdoctoral research fellows, summer internships, student rotations, visiting electives, pathways programs, faculty, staff, and learner resource groups.
The Sr. Director will help develop systems and structures for organizational transformation, which includes strategic planning, execution, performance measurement and optimization and risk management of implementation. The Sr. Director will lead change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of new programs and processes across the organization, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. This role requires end-to-end ownership of complex initiatives, from framing the problem and building the plan, to driving execution alongside cross-functional teams and senior leaders across the university, SOM, the Johns Hopkins Health System and external partners to solve complex business problems as well as plan and oversee execution of growth, innovation initiatives and large-scale strategic projects. The role serves as a trusted advisor for senior leadership in the dean’s office and will help with change management, organizational readiness, organizational performance and strategy execution. This position will have project team direct reporting responsibilities.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Initiatives & Project Management Leadership
- Partner with Executive Director to develop and enhance systems for oversight of the educational compliance framework.
- Being the accountable transformation lead for the execution of strategic priorities, ensuring clear objectives, value proposition, governance, and measurable outcomes.
- Take a holistic view when addressing opportunities and ensuring alignment with broader organizational objectives.
- Translate executive direction into actionable project plans with clear goals, milestones, and ownership.
- Lead high-impact, cross-functional strategic initiatives aligned to priorities across mission and business areas.
- Build and manage matrix teams, including internal and external experts, to support program/project delivery.
- Work with stakeholders to define the scope of the engagement of external consultants when needed and select the best supplier and ensure active management to deliver best return on investment.
- Proactively identify and manage risks associated with program delivery.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the successful execution of programs to achieve desired outcomes.
- Conduct structured analysis and research to support business case development and recommendations for organization-wide problem solving.
- Develop clear, concise presentations and briefing documents for senior leadership.
- Facilitate decision-making and alignment across business units by managing input from multiple stakeholders.
- Build relationships across clinical, academic, research, operational, and corporate teams to move work forward.
- Navigate ambiguity by asking the right questions, breaking down complex problems, and identifying next steps.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy, clarity, and follow-through on deliverables.
- Independently lead and manage complex compliance projects from concept to implementation.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans for compliance initiatives.
- Coordinate timelines and deliverables across legal, compliance, and operational leads.
- Track progress and ensure accountability for key milestones.
- Take complex compliance issues and help operationalize, refine, and implement solutions.
- Design and implement systems and processes to support compliance workflows.
- Identify and mitigate risks to project timelines and deliverables.
- Prepare status reports and dashboards for leadership.
- Facilitate cross functional meetings and ensure follow up on action items.
- Support process mapping and documentation for compliance workflows.
- Supervise project management staff, including direct oversight of defined project teams.
- Ensure compliance with fiscal policies and budget management as it relates to projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Ten years of related experience.
- Knowledge and experience related to project management and implementation of medium and large-scale strategic projects.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
- Experience in project management in an academic medical center or higher education.
Technical qualifications and specialized certifications
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Access for analysis and presentation purposes.
This salary range does not include all components of the School of Medicine's compensation program. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary slightly from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department.
