As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within Corporate Technology – HR & Benefits Technology, you lead multiple technical areas, manage the activities of multiple departments, and collaborate across technical domains. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.
In this role you own the technology and process landscape spanning Global Benefits, Global Mobility, Business Travel, and Expatriate Payroll & Tax—at the largest bank in the world. You lead a 125+ global benefits vendor ecosystem, drive the migration of U.S. pension off legacy PeopleSoft into modern cloud technologies, and deliver end-to-end integration and automation of benefits data into and out of payroll to enable touchless payroll—across countries, currencies, and regulatory regimes, with strong controls, resiliency, and compliance-by-design.
Job responsibilities
- Owns the end-to-end technology strategy and delivery across Global Benefits, Global Mobility, Business Travel, and Expatriate Payroll & Tax, including the 125+ global benefits vendor ecosystem and related application-owner, risk, and vendor-performance governance
- Drives the migration of U.S. pension from legacy PeopleSoft to modern, secure, cloud-native technologies, ensuring data integrity, controls, and operational stability throughout the transition
- Delivers end-to-end integration and automation of all benefits data flowing into and out of payroll to enable touchless payroll—orchestrating a complex, cross-country, cross-regulation landscape of inbound and outbound flows (benefits, mobility, time, banking, tax, statutory, and general ledger) across multiple jurisdictions and currencies
- Leads Global Mobility technology (e.g., Sirva) and expatriate payroll, business travel, and tax support (e.g., KPMG), partnering with HR, Benefits, Mobility, Finance, and Operations to convert needs into prioritized roadmaps
- Sets the engineering bar across the portfolio—custom full-stack development, serverless and cloud-native design on AWS, Infrastructure as Code, Pipeline as Code, and automated CI/CD—delivering repeatable, auditable, resilient deployments
- Champions secure-by-design and compliance-by-design, embedding automated controls, security scanning, and policy-as-code into pipelines to support SOX, statutory and tax reporting, data residency/retention, segregation of duties, and access management
- Directs responsible adoption of AI-enabled engineering—agentic workflows, AI-assisted ("vibe coding") development, and MCP-based services for conversational interfaces—paired with strong guardrails for a highly regulated industry
- Acts as the primary interface with senior leaders and executives, driving consensus across competing risk, regulatory, operational, cost, and modernization priorities, and presenting clearly to senior management
- Leads, hires, and develops large cross-functional engineering teams; champions the firm's culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
- Sets and scales multi-department strategy for agentic AI-enabled engineering and SDLC/TLM automation (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) to drive firmwide objectives (speed, scalability, reliability, and cost-to-serve), including portfolio-level standards for AI-orchestrated delivery workflows, release governance, automated test modernization, resilience engineering, and incident response acceleration; establishes guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, traceability, and reuse.
- Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to drive cross-domain reuse and measurable capacity unlock outcomes across departments.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Deep experience delivering technology across benefits, payroll, mobility, or HR domains in a large, highly regulated, global enterprise spanning the U.S. and multiple countries
- Hands-on and leadership-level expertise in software development with Java and Python on AWS, including serverless and cloud-native design patterns
- Strong full-stack capability, including modern front-end development (e.g., React, TypeScript) and API-first design using GraphQL and REST
- Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation), Pipeline as Code, and automated CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions), with automated security and controls embedded in pipelines
- Demonstrated experience building highly secure code using guardrails appropriate for a highly regulated industry
- Proven delivery of end-to-end integration and automation between vendor systems and payroll, plus experience migrating legacy platforms (e.g., PeopleSoft) to modern cloud with strong data integrity and controls
- Experience managing large vendor ecosystems—onboarding, application ownership, risk management, and performance tracking
- Experience leading large, cross-functional technology teams and influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations to deliver value at scale
- Experience leading multi-organization adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering operating models (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment), including defining governance (human-in-the-loop decisioning, quality gates), measurement frameworks, and secure handling of sensitive inputs/outputs across teams.
- Deep understanding of responsible AI risk, controls, and resiliency/security expectations at scale, with demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on safe adoption, portfolio governance, and reuse-first strategies.
