The job

Reporting to the regional VP of Business Area South America, Central America & Caribbean (BASAC region), the Sr. Director MMR will be based in Panamá and lead a team of 7 direct reports and more than 30 indirect referrals.

You will shape and execute the integrated commercial, medical and regulatory agenda across the region, driving growth, ensuring scientific and regulatory excellence, and safeguarding patient safety, by effectively ensure business assets and human resources in line with the NN Way. If you are a seasoned leader who can move seamlessly between strategy and execution, and between boardroom discussions and scientific depth, this role offers a unique platform to create impact at scale.

You will lead the Medical, Marketing & Regulatory Affairs (MMR) function for BASAC – bringing together Commercial Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs and Pharmacovigilance. The team’s mandate is to accelerate sustainable business growth while ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity, regulatory compliance and patient safety across a diverse and fast‑evolving region.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Shaping and executing the commercial strategy for BASAC
  • Driving medical strategy, scientific communication and publications
  • Overseeing regulatory strategy and compliance, including Pharmacovigilance and safety
  • You will hold significant decision-making authority, set the vision for the function and act as a key member of the BASAC leadership team.
  • Full strategic and operational accountability for Medical, Marketing and Regulatory Affairs for BASAC
  • Decision-making authority over the development and execution of medical, commercial marketing and regulatory initiatives, ensuring alignment with Novo Nordisk’s business objectives
  • Responsibility for shaping the department’s vision, driving innovation and maintaining a competitive edge in the market
  • Close coordination with cross‑functional stakeholders (e.g. Market Access, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, global and regional functions) and external partners to ensure cohesive and effective strategies

Qualifications

To ensure success in this role, you are expected to show a proven track record of the following functional and leadership skills:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in commercial marketing and/or medical roles in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, including significant leadership responsibilities
  • Master’s degree (MBA) in Marketing, Business Administration, or Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine or a related field
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful marketing and medical strategies
  • Background in Diabetes, Obesity or other cardiometabolic specialty
  • Knowledge in Regulatory will be considered an advantage
  • Experience with OTC or consumer health products is an advantage, especially with exposure to non-prescription portfolios and related market dynamics
  • Desirable experience in consumer-driven environments
  • Strong expertise in market research, product management and P&L analysis
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional and multicultural teams and driving business growth
  • Expertise in scientific communication, clinical trials and stakeholder engagement (internal and external)
  • Experience working in complex, regional or multi‑country environments is highly valued
  • Adaptability and resilience: Comfortable navigating dynamic market conditions and organisational change
  • Proficiency in English (Spanish is a plus)

The Business Area South America, Central America & Caribbean (BASAC) encompasses 15 diverse countries. Within this expansive region, BASAC operates through 3 key affiliates (Argentina, Chile and Colombia) and 2 clusters Central America & Caribbean (CAC) and South America (SAM).
