  • Lead HSE staff functions across global operations and develop the capability and continuity of the HSE leadership team.
  • Partner with operational leadership to translate HSE strategy into consistent field practices and effective messaging aligned with HSE KPIs.
  • Report to the Executive Leadership Team and, as required, the Board of Directors, providing clear risk assessments, recommendations and performance reporting.
  • Represent TEAM in government and client engagements within delegated authority, coordinating with Legal and Operations.
  • Act as the enterprise HSE authority for serious incidents, regulatory inspections and crisis response whenever the Senior Vice President is unavailable.

The Sr. Director of HSE leads and initiates enterprise HSE programs, escalates significant risks and exercises TEAM’s Stop Work Obligation when conditions warrant. The role recommends and, within delegated authority, approves HSE policy changes, manages the department budget and makes external commitments in line with the company delegation of authority. Operational leaders remain accountable for safe work execution; the Sr. Director sets the standards, provides advice and independent assurance and escalates when controls fall short.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, environmental science or a related technical field from an accredited university.
  • At least 12 years of progressive HSE experience in high-hazard industrial settings such as refining, petrochemical, power generation, oil and gas or industrial services, including at least 5 years leading HSE across multiple facilities, regions or business units and management of HSE professionals.
  • Current Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Direct experience in a contractor or industrial services business whose workforce operates at customer sites, where safety performance affects bid eligibility and customer scorecards.
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing, auditing and improving safety management systems, including translating standards into practical operational controls.
  • Extensive experience driving safety culture across an organization, with demonstrated improvements in leadership behaviors, employee engagement, hazard reporting and risk reduction.
  • Demonstrated capability in serious incident investigation, critical risk management, regulatory compliance, executive communication and organizational change.
  • Demonstrated experience managing inspections and enforcement actions with U.S. federal, state and local government authorities on health, safety and environmental matters, including citation response and settlement negotiation in coordination with counsel.
  • Experience presenting HSE performance and risk directly to a CEO, executive team or board of directors.
  • Experience leading HSE teams across more than one country, with working knowledge of Canadian provincial, UK and EU HSE requirements, and the ability to partner with operational leaders on effective messaging aligned with HSE KPIs, and work within a team framework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in occupational safety, engineering, environmental management or business administration.
  • One or more additional credentials such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), NEBOSH International Diploma or OSHA Outreach Trainer (500/510).
  • Working knowledge of process safety management (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA Risk Management Program requirements as they apply to contractors working in customer facilities.
  • Oversight of a radiation safety program for industrial radiography, or service as a Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Experience in nuclear facilities or under a 10 CFR 50 Appendix B quality program.
  • Leadership of HSE due diligence and integration for acquisitions.
  • A documented record of measurable SIF reduction and EMR improvement across a multi-site organization.
  • Prior service as the designated HSE lead during a fatality or other catastrophic event.

Leadership Profile

  • Credible with field crews and senior executives alike, as comfortable at a refinery turnaround as in an executive review.
  • Commercially fluent, with a working understanding of how safety performance drives customer awards, insurance cost and margin.
  • Calm, decisive judgment under pressure and the independence to stop work or escalate regardless of schedule or customer pressure.
