The Opportunity
We’re looking to fill a Sr. Director, Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) & Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) position at RFA Bank of Canada!
The Senior Director, Chief Compliance Officer, and Chief Privacy Officer, manages the Compliance and Privacy functions at the Bank. Functioning as an independent and objective second-line function that reviews and evaluates compliance and privacy issues across the Bank, the position ensures the Board of Directors, management and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory bodies and that company policies and procedures are being followed.
Core Responsibilities
As the Sr. Director, CCO & CPO, you will:
• Develop and maintain compliance and privacy policies, standards, and procedures.
• Monitor new and changing laws, regulations, guidelines, and regulatory expectations, assessing impact, assigning ownership, and tracking implementation.
• Report program results and significant regulatory developments to the CRO, senior management and the Board in a timely manner.
Reporting:
• Report findings, issues and concerns to CRO and senior management as required.
• Ensure that reporting obligations to applicable regulatory bodies are accurate and timely.
• Provide reports to the relevant Board committees on at least a quarterly basis, keeping the CRO and the Board informed about the operation of the regulatory compliance, and Privacy program.
Regulatory & Compliance:
• The CCO owns the Bank-wide Regulatory Compliance Management framework, including identification, risk assessment, monitoring/testing, issue escalation, reporting, and documentation of regulatory compliance risk.
• The CPO has ownership and accountability for the Bank’s privacy management program, privacy policies and practices, employee training, complaint and inquiry handling, access requests, vendor/third-party privacy controls, breach assessment, breach management, breach records, and reporting/notification where required. This includes oversight of PIPEDA compliance as core business obligations.
• Maintain and increase knowledge of the Personal Information Protection & Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), OSFI Guidelines, and FCAC Guidelines in order to ensure that the Bank has the correct procedures and processes in place and that those procedures and processes are being followed by all departments and employees.
People Management:
• Motivate and coach team members to assist them in exceeding their objectives.
• Develop staffing plans anticipating short-, medium- and long-term needs.
• Lead and participate in annual performance reviews, addressing areas of strength and improvement.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
• 10+ years’ experience in a bank or regulated entity in audit, compliance, privacy, regulatory relations or regulatory agency, or some combination thereof.
• Privacy designation or equivalent experience, such as CIPP/C, CIPM, or demonstrated Canadian privacy law experience.
• Bank professional, possessing a strategic as well as granular understanding of regulatory risk, including emerging risk issues.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across the organization to leverage available resources and talent to help drive activities to completion in an efficient and timely manner.
• Ability to communicate persuasively with knowledge and credibility to all levels of the Bank, including appropriate management committees and the Board of Directors; offering well considered regulatory risk management solutions and recommendations.
• Superior understanding of regulatory risk management and regulatory expectations.
• Ability to build and manage a high performing team.
• Understanding of financial, operational and IT controls.
