Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise AI Governance Leadership

  • Lead and manage the organization's AI governance framework across the entire lifecycle of AI-enabled solutions, including:
  • Intake and evaluation
  • Risk assessment and classification
  • Approval and oversight
  • Ongoing monitoring
  • Retirement and decommissioning
  • Establish governance processes that balance innovation with appropriate risk management and control requirements
  • Ensure governance activities operate as an ongoing risk management function with continuous review, monitoring, and enhancement
  • Partner with business, technology, and analytics teams to promote responsible and scalable adoption of AI capabilities

Governance Program Management

  • Develop and operationalize governance frameworks that support multiple business units and stakeholder groups
  • Drive consistent application of:
  • Policies and standards
  • Risk assessment methodologies
  • Control frameworks
  • Escalation and decision-making processes
  • Partner with organizational leaders to understand business objectives and align governance requirements accordingly
  • Promote adoption of governance best practices, playbooks, and operating procedures across the enterprise
  • Establish centralized reporting, inventory management, and oversight processes for AI systems

Risk Oversight & Decision Support

  • Provide executive-level oversight of AI and technology risk assessments
  • Review governance recommendations and support risk-based approval decisions
  • Exercise judgment in situations involving ambiguous risk profiles or emerging technologies
  • Ensure appropriate governance controls exist for:
  • Advanced predictive analytics and decision-support systems
  • Customer-facing digital solutions
  • Systems utilizing sensitive, confidential, or regulated data
  • Third-party and externally sourced AI technologies

Monitoring, Controls & Assurance

  • Oversee ongoing monitoring programs to evaluate:
  • Model and system performance
  • Stability and reliability
  • Bias and fairness indicators
  • Emerging operational risks
  • Ensure technology solutions continue to meet internal risk, compliance, and governance expectations
  • Oversee the effectiveness of cybersecurity, privacy, and technology control frameworks
  • Support organizational readiness for audits, assessments, certifications, and regulatory reviews
  • Drive continuous improvement of governance controls and risk management practices

Third-Party & Vendor Governance

  • Establish governance and oversight processes for externally developed AI and technology solutions
  • Ensure appropriate due diligence, risk assessment, and ongoing monitoring of third-party providers
  • Review vendor documentation, controls, and risk management practices
  • Partner with procurement, legal, security, and business stakeholders to ensure third-party solutions meet governance requirements
  • Develop standards for evaluating vendor transparency, accountability, and risk management maturity

Reporting, Governance & Incident Oversight

  • Develop executive and board-level reporting on:
  • AI governance effectiveness
  • Technology risk posture
  • Emerging risk trends
  • Key performance and risk indicators
  • Ensure reporting is transparent, actionable, and aligned across stakeholder groups
  • Oversee governance activities related to technology and AI-related incidents, including:
  • Escalation processes
  • Investigation support
  • Remediation tracking
  • Lessons learned reviews

Enterprise Technology Risk Leadership

  • Align AI governance with broader enterprise risk management practices
  • Ensure integration across:
  • Cybersecurity governance
  • Data protection and privacy programs
  • Technology controls and risk management processes
  • Operational risk frameworks
  • Drive a consistent and unified approach to technology governance across the organization

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing governance and risk management team
  • Establish operating rhythms, priorities, performance objectives, and service standards
  • Foster a collaborative, business-oriented approach that enables innovation while maintaining appropriate controls
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on AI, technology risk, and governance matters

Qualifications

Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Technology risk management
  • AI governance
  • Cybersecurity governance
  • Enterprise risk management
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Experience operating within highly regulated environments
  • Experience supporting complex organizations with multiple business units, operating entities, or stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated experience building or leading enterprise governance programs

Technical & Regulatory Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of:
  • AI governance frameworks
  • Model risk management principles
  • Technology risk management practices
  • Responsible AI concepts, including fairness, transparency, and accountability
  • Familiarity with industry-recognized governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and risk management frameworks
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, and external assessments
  • Experience evaluating and managing third-party technology risk

Leadership Competencies

  • Exceptional executive communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong decision-making and risk assessment capabilities
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and organizational change
