Sr DevOps/Platform Engineer

Position Summary

As a Senior DevOps Engineer on the Panera Systems team, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable automation, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure that enable rapid and reliable software delivery. You are a self-motivated problem solver who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about improving developer productivity, operational excellence, and platform reliability.

The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering fundamentals with deep infrastructure and automation expertise. You enjoy building solutions that simplify complex processes, reduce manual effort, and accelerate the delivery of applications and services.

Location: St. Louis, MO (hybrid)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Development, QA Automation, Release Management, and Infrastructure teams to design and improve software delivery processes and deployment pipelines.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines that enable secure, efficient, and repeatable application and infrastructure deployments.
  • Build and support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to provision and manage cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Partner with development teams to implement source control best practices, branching strategies, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Drive automation initiatives that improve system reliability, reduce operational overhead, and accelerate time to market.
  • Support containerized workloads and orchestration platforms in cloud environments.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve platform performance, availability, and security.
  • Mentor engineers and promote DevOps best practices across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD principles, automation strategies, and software delivery best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or similar technologies.
  • Software development experience with the ability to quickly learn and adopt new programming languages and frameworks.
  • Experience developing or scripting with one or more of the following:
  • Python
  • Groovy
  • Ruby
  • Java
  • Node.js
  • Strong experience with Git-based source control platforms, including GitLab and/or GitHub.
  • Experience managing artifact repositories such as Artifactory.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and working familiarity with Windows environments.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience supporting workloads in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere/ESXi.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and operating enterprise-scale CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps and security automation practices.
  • Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical production systems.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring team members.

Competitive Pay $111,808 - $134,170 annually

The actual pay offered will be determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, job-related knowledge, skills, and geographical location. Individual compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
