Our award-winning client is seeking an Sr Designer (Instrumentation & Electrical) to join their team. Join our employee-owned Automation & Engineering Firm in Sugar Land, TX, and play a pivotal role in designing and implementing instrumentation and electrical systems for major Oil & Gas, Chemical, and related industry projects.
As a Senior Designer, you’ll leverage your expertise in AutoCAD, electrical design, and field experience to deliver high-quality, safe, and efficient solutions.
Responsibilities:
Lead and Coordinate: Drive the design of Instrument & Control Systems for Oil & Gas refineries and chemical plants.
Technical Design: Develop detailed wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, demo packages, and I/O loading documentation.
Panel Design: Design Junction Boxes, Marshalling Panels, and DCS/PLC Cabinets, including Bill of Materials (BOM).
Installation & Materials: Create instrument installation details and generate material take-offs for project estimates.
Electrical Design: Develop conduit and cable tray drawings with support details and sizing calculations, and perform low-voltage electrical design (120 VAC & 24 VDC).
Field Work: Conduct field surveys and assist with hot/cold cutovers.
Documentation: Review and redline P&IDs, interlock schematics, and motor schematics.
Compliance: Ensure all work aligns with safety policies, industry codes (NEC), and client standards.
Collaboration: Work independently and effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
Required Qualifications:
5-10+ years of experience in Instrument & Control System Design within the Oil & Gas and Chemical industries.
High proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and Excel.
Strong knowledge of instrumentation design, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
Ability to work in field environments and participate in cutover planning/execution.
Experience with fiber routing and general fiber optic knowledge.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Experience with MicroStation, CADWorx, BlueBeam, and Access; familiarity with NEC codes and general electrical design.
