
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Take full responsibility for structural and bridge design and design review activities for assigned projects, including checking and endorsing contractor design submissions as part of the internal quality assurance and control process.
Coordinate closely with design, construction management, and project control teams to ensure timely delivery of design outputs and alignment with construction sequencing and project schedules.
Lead and mentor a team of Design Engineers, providing technical guidance, oversight, and support to ensure high-quality design delivery and adherence to project requirements.
Prepare, review, and approve technical correspondence, reports, and letters related to structural, bridge, and geotechnical design issues, coordinating with construction management and contract administration teams.
Provide professional and competent structural and geotechnical engineering services for bridges, elevated structures, marine structures (quay walls, jetties, revetments, ports, and harbours), and other infrastructure, including soil investigations, field testing, laboratory works, and design.
Carry out analysis and design of soil improvement, slope stability, and coastal protection works, as well as foundation design for bridges and other heavy structures.
Lead and approve the design of all structural elements for bridges and infrastructure projects, including reinforced concrete (RC), prestressed/post-tensioned concrete, steel, and composite structures, from foundations to superstructure.
Ensure all designs comply with the Design Process Plan and relevant codes and standards, including British Standards (BS), ASTM, AASHTO, and Philippine standards for civil, structural, bridge, and marine works.
Independently liaise with Clients, Contractors, and government authorities during the design process to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure project deliverables meet client expectations.
Review and approve structural and bridge design reports, calculations, drawings, and technical documents, ensuring compliance with project and client requirements.
Review and approve design specifications and technical inputs for tender and contract documents related to structural and bridge works.
Perform design reviews of structural and geotechnical elements for bridges, elevated structures, and marine/coastal infrastructure for both local and overseas projects.
Provide technical support during tender and proposal stages, including input to methodology, design concepts, risk assessment, and pricing to support successful project pursuits.
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor/master’s degree in civil engineering from recognised and reputable university
Minimum 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, including design, analysis, and review of structural, bridge, and geotechnical works
Possess the skill, knowledge and ability to manage and co-ordinate all the design activities
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Team player and able to multi-task
Discipline, self-motivated and resourceful
Experience in contract administration will be advantageous
Well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite of Software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc)
Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plaxis etc
