ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Database Administrator in the Columbia Digital Technology (CDT) team serves as a key technical expert responsible for delivering enterprise-wide operational database development and support. This role oversees the resolution of database-related incidents and service requests, ensures timely production support within established SLAs, responds to alerts and escalations and contributes to the design, implementation and optimization of critical database solutions. This position also represents the DBA functions on major organizational projects, providing technical guidance, and ensuring database best practises are followed.

Based in the India Global Capability Center (GCC), this position partners closely with global teams and plays a key role in executing Columbia Sportswear’s database strategy. The Senior Database Administrator is accountable for the full lifecycle of database environments, including design, maintenance, monitoring, performance tuning, and root‑cause analysis across the enterprise.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

• Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migration of SQL Server instances
• Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments
• Monitor database performance and proactively identify tuning opportunities to ensure high availability and optimal response times
• Manage and execute backup and recovery strategies, ensuring compliance with RPO/RTO requirements
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, including performance bottlenecks, locking/blocking, and resource contention
• Collaborate with application development teams to design efficient database structures, queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies
• Maintain database administration and security standards, including user access, roles, encryption, and compliance with organizational policies.
• Oversee database performance, capacity planning, patching schedules and uptime strategies to support high‑availability business operations.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and solutions to enhance database reliability, scalability, and automation.
• Represent the DBA functions on key projects, ensuring database best practices are incorporated into solution design
• Respond to database alerts, incidents, and escalations, ensuring timely resolution within SLAs
• Conduct root‑cause analysis for recurring issues and implement long‑term corrective actions
• Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams
• Participate in On-call support when needed

YOU ARE

• 5 - 10 years of hands‑on experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server
• Expertise in:
  • SQL Server installation, configuration, and administration
  • Performance tuning and optimization (T‑SQL, indexing, execution plans)
  • High availability and disaster recovery (Always On, clustering, log shipping, mirroring)
  • Backup/restore strategies and automation
  • SQL Server security and compliance
• Strong understanding of database architecture, storage, networking, and server infrastructure
• Experience supporting large‑scale, mission‑critical database environments
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive resolution independently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams

YOU HAVE

• Experience with cloud‑hosted SQL Server environments
• Familiarity with PowerShell or other scripting languages for automation
• Knowledge of ETL tools, SSIS, SSRS, or SSAS
• Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds SQL Sentry or equivalent.
• Experience with JIRA and Confluence (Atlassian tools)
