Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Sr Data Engineer to join the IT Data & Analytics Packaging & Cellulose Delivery Team in Atlanta, Georgia. In this hands-on role, you will lead the architecture, engineering quality, delivery coordination, and production reliability of data, business intelligence, and analytics solutions supporting the Packaging & Cellulose Digital Core business.

You will guide technical decisions across AWS, Amazon Redshift, Power BI, Microsoft BI technologies, source integrations, and emerging Databricks capabilities while helping build scalable, reliable, and AI-enabled solutions.

This role is based in our HQ in Atlanta, GA and the expectation is three (3) days in the office per week.

Our Team

The IT Data & Analytics Packaging & Cellulose Delivery Team designs, builds, and maintains solutions that support Georgia-Pacific's data and analytics needs. The global team partners with GP IT, Koch Technology Center, product owners, analysts, architects, platform teams, support teams, and business stakeholders to enable timely, data-driven decision making.

What You Will Do

  • Own the end-to-end technical design and delivery of data, business intelligence, and analytics solutions, translating business needs into scalable architectures, estimates, delivery plans, and technical work items
  • Lead engineering quality and release readiness through design and code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, deployment decisions, architecture documentation, and production support
  • Design and improve data architecture, models, and ETL/ELT integrations across AWS services, Amazon Redshift, enterprise data lakes, APIs, files, external sources, and semantic models
  • Guide Power BI semantic models, datasets, dashboards, paginated reports, refresh architecture, DAX and SQL performance, row-level security, gateways, and self-service analytics
  • Apply version control, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, audit controls, observability, alerting, recovery patterns, and release governance to improve reliability, security, maintainability, and cost effectiveness
  • Evaluate and apply approved AI-assisted engineering and Databricks capabilities with human review, security, traceability, data governance, and quality controls
  • Partner across technical and business teams to resolve dependencies, manage technical risk and debt, mentor engineers and BI developers, and build shared ownership through documentation and knowledge transfer

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience leading enterprise data, business intelligence, or analytics solutions from technical design through deployment and production support
  • Hands-on experience with AWS data services, including Amazon S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Athena, EventBridge, or IAM
  • Experience using SQL for data modeling, ETL/ELT development, performance tuning, and data-quality controls
  • Experience developing or supporting Power BI semantic models, datasets, refresh processes, security, performance, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Git-based version control, testing, CI/CD, release governance, infrastructure as code, or multi-environment deployments
  • Experience leading incident resolution, documenting technical decisions, coordinating work across stakeholders, and providing technical guidance to engineers or developers
  • Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Genie, conversational analytics, or governed data-product use cases
  • Experience applying AI-assisted engineering practices with security, validation, traceability, and human review controls
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts, including table grain, fact and dimension models, surrogate keys, slowly changing dimensions, lineage, and audit requirements
  • Experience with manufacturing, packaging, supply chain, finance, inventory, or logistics data
  • Experience with Infor M3, enterprise data lakes, Denodo, data virtualization, or API-driven integrations
  • Experience with observability, automated incident creation, operational dashboards, FinOps, or relevant AWS, Power BI, Databricks, architecture, or data-engineering certifications
