Skills and Competencies

  • Macro/market literacy: rates, inflation, FX, commodity shocks, banking conditions, sovereign risk transmission to corporates/financials
  • Familiarity with European public policy and the European economy; public policy and macroeconomic research and analysis experience or relevant credit analysis experience preferred
  • Solid grounding in credit risk concepts leverage, coverage, liquidity, cash flow, covenant analysis, refinancing risk, capital structure, recovery basics
  • Ability to translate macro/market trends and/or global credit trends (such as AI, Private Credit or Sustainable Finance) into sector/issuer implications, especially for EMEA sectors (corporate sectors, banks, financial institutions, sovereign)
  • AI-enabled analysis with controls: Proficient in using approved AI tools to accelerate research, drafting, and data extraction, with disciplined validation of outputs against primary sources and strict adherence to data confidentiality and governance standards
  • Data & automation skills & data visualisation: Advanced Excel, Word and Powerpoint; working knowledge of Python (or R) for data cleaning, analysis, and simple automation is desirable; ability to work with large financial and macro datasets from internal and external sources
  • Technology & workflow literacy: Comfortable operating in modern research environments (databases, dashboards, versioned workflows), with the ability to document analytical steps and ensure outputs are reproducible and auditable
  • Good communication skills and can articulate ideas clearly; displays excellent interpersonal capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency. Interest in exploring AI systems and a willingness to develop awareness of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use

  • Strong academic background – graduate degree or equivalent

Responsibilities

The Senior Credit Associate will provide analytical, statistical, research and logistical assistance to the EMEA Chief Credit Officer (CCO) team, which provides leadership of regional credit oversight, ensuring the accuracy, consistency and transparency of credit outcomes in EMEA.

  • Undertake economic and credit research and quantitative analysis related to macroeconomic, financial, policy and credit topics to promote rating quality, support credit analysis and research publications, including on topics such as key European policy changes, elections, macro-financing conditions and long-term trends such as AI, digital finance, private credit and sustainable finance
  • Prepare economic, public policy and financial spreadsheets and presentations
  • Assist in the drafting and visualization of rating & default, macroeconomic data analysis, public policy analysis and thematic research publications
  • Support internal reviews of credit trends leveraging Moody’s historical rating and default data
  • Assist managers and senior analysts with ongoing and ad hoc projects on creating analytical tools to promote rating quality at times of significant structural changes or enduring shifts in credit conditions
  • Support the EMEA Chief Credit Officer function in monitoring and analyzing regional credit trends, macroeconomic developments, policy changes and country-specific economic, fiscal, and political developments
  • Assist with drafting public policy, macroeconomic, consumer sector and credit conditions outlooks and memoranda and related documents
  • Lead and project manage internal dashboards, newsletters and memoranda
  • Adhere to applicable codes of conduct, policies, procedures, and best practices

About the team

The CCO team collaborates closely with Rating Groups and Group Credit Officers (GCOs) across the region to shape Moody’s perspectives and research on macroeconomic, policy and thematic trends influencing credit risk. The EMEA CCO team also ensures cross-sector alignment and coordination of analytical house views across rating teams across EMEA. GCOs are part of a peer team within Credit Strategy and Guidance and provide rating guidance to support quality across individual sectors and cross-sector themes, such as Private Credit, AI or Digital Finance.
